Shepard’s fury came in response to the boy ignoring their daughter after she presented him with a valentine.
Dax Shepard is a protective dad — which means Kristen Bell needs to be a protective wife.
The actors, who have been married for 13 years and share two children, appeared together on Monday’s episode of Shepard’s Armchair Expertpodcast. Bell was joined by her Nobody Wants This costars Adam Brody, Justine Lupe, and Timothy Simons to discuss the hit Netflix show when the conversation turned to the perils of Valentine’s Day pageantry.
“We had a valentine mishap this year, and it was the hardest. It’s the most pain I’ve been in in a decade,” Shepard managed to share, discomfort visible on his face. “We had a little one who’d had a Valentine, and then that Valentine didn’t really acknowledge her all day, and she had done so much. I was like, ‘I’m gonna f—ing kill this prick,'” Shepard laughed.
Bell then noted, “I had to lock the doors from the outside with the key just to make sure Dax didn’t knock little boy’s door that evening.”

Shepard reasoned out loud, “I was like, ‘Are you kidding me, my friend? Do you know what you got here on the hook? This is the number one girl in America.'” But ultimately, he explained how he saw both sides of the situation. “I realized [the] next time I was in class and I was eyeing up this little f—er, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, boys don’t know what the hell is going on.'”
Bell concurred: “He completely forgot that it was that day.”
Monica Padman, Shepard’s cohost, added that the debacle proved to her how much this particular daughter of Shepard’s and Bell’s “is so your daughter,” explaining, “A week later I was like, ‘I’m really sorry that happened.’ She was like, ‘Oh, it’s fine. He didn’t mean it.’ She immediately had an understanding that it wasn’t personal. I was like, ‘How are you 11 and can do that?'”

Shepard and Bell share two girls — Lincoln, born in 2013, and Delta, born in 2014. Though the family of four are the picture of a happy Hollywood family, the Veronica Mars actress has been candid about the struggles she’s faced as a working mom.
“It’s hard. Do not think because I am on your television that it is easy for me,” she admitted in an interview last week. “It’s brutal. I cry weekly.” She then shared some of the questions she frequently asks herself when considering jobs: “Is this going to pull me away from my kids too much? Will I still be able to be the mom that I want to be? That’s really the number one, to be honest. There’s nothing higher than that… I would easily let my whole career and all its legacy and notoriety ‘disapparate’ tomorrow if it meant sacrificing something major in my kids’ lives, or not being there.”
