Kodansha has officially launched its Indian publishing business with an opening event in Delhi, making it another major step in the company’s expansion into the country. The publisher also confirmed that its first lineup of locally printed manga will be announced by early October, ahead of its planned autumn 2026 launch.

The launch event celebrated the opening of Kodansha India Private Limited, the company’s new local subsidiary, which was established to print and distribute official manga in India at more affordable prices.

Kodansha India is a joint venture between Kodansha, Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd., and IJ Kakehashi Services Pvt. Ltd. According to the company, it is the first time a comprehensive Japanese publisher has established a local subsidiary in India to publish and sell printed books and manga directly to readers.

Sharing photos from the launch celebration in Delhi, Kodansha thanked its partners and stakeholders for attending and had a message for Indian fans who have been waiting for official releases.

“To the fans in India who have been patiently waiting, we will announce the lineup by early October. Thank you so much for your continued support!” the company said.

Kodansha first announced its India plans in July, confirming it would establish a publishing arm in Delhi and begin printing manga locally instead of importing books. The move is expected to lower prices and improve access to official editions across the country.

At the time, Yae Sahashi from Kodansha’s global business management department said the company planned to release official products at lower prices, adding that making authentic editions more accessible would help grow manga readership in India while reducing piracy.
