Kim Kardashianhas faced a wave of online criticism after her SKIMS brand launched a $148, 12-day accessories advent calendar, with some consumers calling for legal action against the company.
Critics accusedthe reality TV star’s brand of selling underwhelming products at an excessive price, arguing that the items did not justify the cost.
According to a report by US entertainment news outlet Page Six, the controversy began after a TikTok video showing the calendar’s contents went viral, attracting more than 45 million views in a short period.
In the video, a content creator expressed disappointment as she opened the calendar’s boxes, revealing a collection of simple accessories. The items included SKIMS-branded keychains, silk hair ties, hair clips, a small foam doll and Christmas tree decorations.
The creator criticized the contents, describing the price as far too high for the products included.
The video sparked widespread reactions, with several users describing the products as “junk.” One commenter said the contents warranted a lawsuit against the brand.
Another user estimated that the items were worth no more than $20, comparing them to miscellaneous objects found between car seats or products sold at discount stores.
Despite the backlash, the calendar sold out on SKIMS’ online store and was subsequently added to a waiting list, meaning it is no longer available for immediate purchase.
This is not the first time Kardashian’s products have faced criticism. Her brand has previously drawn complaints over designs described by some consumers as unusual, as well as advertising campaigns that some followers considered inappropriate.
Media outlets contacted Kardashian’s representatives for comment on the latest criticism surrounding the SKIMS calendar, but no immediate response had been issued.
