    Scene Review Movie Talkies:

Many of us have already watched the Malayalam film Oppam, and some of you might agree with me when I say that the film feels boring at several places and is unnecessarily stretched. Now, imagine a similar concept with a complete makeover, and that’s exactly what Scene offers. It blends comedy with an investigative thriller and throws in some action to add that extra dose of mass appeal. From “Seen” to “Scene”, how this film transforms itself into an entertaining watch is something you need to experience. You will definitely enjoy it. The only problem is that the film is stretched by around 15-20 minutes, mostly because of the unnecessary romantic portions and songs. Apart from that, it’s a fine film and a perfect weekend popcorn entertainer for audiences across the board.

Maatrubhumi vs Eetha: Can Bollywood’s current situation afford this clash? Read our take –

    Scene Story:

The film begins with the introduction of a popular police officer, DSP Inba (Suriya). He is known for solving the toughest murder cases, but lately, he has been behaving rather strangely. He wants to resign, but his boss refuses to accept his resignation. Eventually, the reason behind his repeated attempts to quit is revealed, leaving us shocked. Inba knows that he is gradually losing his eyesight, which is why he has been submitting his resignation again and again, but his boss simply refuses to accept it. Now, when his boss is finally ready to accept his resignation, Inba wants to solve one final murder case, which has been cleverly executed by a super-smart murderer, Eeswaran (Naslen). Inba hires a secretary to become his eyes, and Maya (Nazriya Nazim) gets the job. She becomes his companion, and Inba also brings his mother and father into the picture to help him crack this final case. However, Eeswaran is extremely clever, and Inba’s blindness gives the villain a clear advantage. So, how will our hero manage to catch this killer?

    Scene Film Review:

Scene begins like a straightforward mass entertainer, but suddenly, you find yourself listening to some intelligent conversations about murder investigations and the techniques involved in solving them. Then, we get to revisit certain moments with a completely different perspective, leaving us with a smile. Eeswaran’s technique is well-designed, well-written and nuanced. Then come some whistle-worthy moments when the hero manages to dominate the villain despite his inability to see, and this is where the writing really peaks. The final action showdown is a total blockbuster episode, but I still believe that Scene is more about enjoying those small, small moments. One such scene comes when Inba senses the killer’s presence in a crowd and unknowingly shows two fingers towards the villain. It’s a terrific little moment! The romantic scenes between Inba and Maya, however, spoil the mood because they go against the thrilling momentum and atmosphere of the film. The humour remains consistent, neither too much nor too little. The laughs are situational and genuine, so it doesn’t really matter if there aren’t too many of them. A few scenes do lack logic, but despite that, the overall conviction remains fairly good and steady.

    Scene Cast:

Suriya packs a punch as the protagonist, a character with flaws but also plenty of strengths. So what if he can’t see? He can feel, sense things and make excellent use of his presence of mind. That dialogue in the climax when he tells Eeswaran, “I wore uniform when you were in diapers,” is a total mass moment. Naslen gets a solid role and performs really well too. I haven’t really seen this guy deliver a bad performance, and he continues to keep that faith intact. I was expecting Nazriya Nazim to do something similar to what she did in Sookshmadarshini, but her role here is quite different. Nazriya getting a better action sequence than Suriya was something I hadn’t expected, and it turns out to be a pleasant surprise. Anandaraj does well, Rajpriyan and Lal are fine, Gajaraj is decent, and Tovino Thomas’s cameo is superb. We will get to see him in Part 2 now, so watch out for that!

    Scene Movie Review:

The technical aspects of the film could have elevated it to a whole new level, but most of them remain merely serviceable. The cinematography is average, while the editing lacks sharpness. The screenplay is better despite a few unnecessary scenes, but it isn’t completely flawless either. The production design is just about okay, the music works better when it complements the situations, and the background score is below average. Jithu Madhavan is the real hero here, I believe. Through his writing, he takes an interesting subject and presents it in an entertaining manner, while also doing full justice to it as a director. Scene may have a few logical shortcomings, but as a popcorn entertainer, it won’t disappoint you at all. It’s definitely watchable and, more importantly, it’s enjoyable!
