    Key Points

    • Kelly Ripa comically called out kids’ loud iPads in public, amid a cohost discussion about restaurants implementing adults-only policies.

    • “We could turn Bluey down a notch,” Ripa joked during a pre-taped segment on Live With Kelly and Mark.

    • Ripa said kids typically aren’t disruptive in restaurants she’s in: “They’re in the iPad screen. You don’t even know they’re there. They don’t even know they’re there.”

Talk show icon Kelly Ripa could maybe do without hearing Bluey yap at dinner, thank you very much!

During Friday’s pre-taped edition of Live With Kelly and Mark(which was filmed prior to Ripa’s extended absence amid surgery recovery), she and her husband-cohost Mark Consuelos, both 55, reacted to news that some restaurants “have already embraced adults-only policies as part of their brand identity,” the latter read aloud.

“When we traveled, we always had our kids. When you’re in Italy, they bring their kids everywhere. They’re out until midnight walking around. We had our kids out late, I liked the family environment,” Consuelos said in reaction to the news. However, he added, “There’s something about a public pool at a resort or something, the volume of screaming kids that can become…” trailing off just short of describing the noise.

Ripa added, “Plus, kids now at restaurants are different. They’re in the iPad screen. You don’t even know they’re there. They don’t even know they’re there.”

She said that she’s “never seen anything like it” before, and recalled that she and Consuelos had to try far less digitally centered approaches to calm their three children in public.

“Now, kids just have iPads and they watch movies. It’s like they’re not even there. I haven’t heard a noisy kid in a restaurant. I mean, I hear the movie. We could turn Bluey down a notch,” Ripa joked of the beloved animated series, which follows the daily lives of the titular blue dog and her family. “I shouldn’t know what Bluey is — my kids are adults!”

Ripa and Consuelos have a comical history with calling out children (and, sometimes, their parents) from their posts on Live With Kelly and Mark.

In 2023, Ripa singled out “ingrate children” who complained about her Halloween candy selection at her New York City home that year.

“I put two candy bars in each bag,” Ripa said at the time. “I was tired of the ingrate children going, ‘I don’t like that candy bar. Can I have this candy bar?’ This way, you get a bag, move on.”

She then ran out of bags to hold the sweets, and was forced to revert back to single servings of candy for the neighborhood children.

“And then it was, ‘I don’t like Twix. Can I have a Kit Kat? My brother can’t have peanuts,'” she recalled, feigning a whiny kid’s voice.

Ripa and Consuelos earlier recalled an incident where aneighbor phoned in a noise complaint about them in 1999. “It’s interesting, our neighbors, who, they’re fine, out on Long Island, they complained about a Halloween party back in 1999. The party was from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It was a kids’ party,” Consuelos said, to which Ripa added, “It was a kids’ party, and we got a noise complaint from our friendly neighbors.”

Live With Kelly and Mark returns with new live episodes beginning Sept. 8 in syndication. Check local listings for showtimes in your area.
