PS1 game on PS Plus gets rare trophy support

A PlayStation Plus freebie that arrived earlier this week is a rarity; it’s a PS1 game with trophy support, and it’s about time this became more of a standard.

On June 23, 2022, 13 PS1 games came to PS Plus, namely: Ape Escape, Everybody’s Golf, Jumping Flash!, Kurushi, Mr Driller, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee,Resident Evil: Director’s Cut, Syphon Filter, Tekken 2, Toy Story 2, Wild Arms,Worms Armageddon, and Worms World Party.

However, only five of those games had trophy support: Ape Escape, Everybody’s Golf, Kurushi, Syphon Filter, and Wild Arms. Since that time, roughly half of the PS1 games on PlayStation Plus have trophy support, which shows that this feature is far from a standard practice, and it’s long overdue for that to change.

Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire gets PS1 trophy support

As brought to our attention by Reddit user Freespur , Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire is getting 21 trophies for players to acquire, and it’s great to see

Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire was included in the batch of 10 games for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in August 2026.

“Oh wow, this was one of the only games I owned on PS1 as a kid. Core memory unlocked, I’ll have to check this out for sure,” replied Redditor MyNeighborToto.

“Capcom would never,” added Mando316, likely referring to none of the original Resident Evil trilogy having PS1 trophy support.

While it might be an entirely unreasonable request, many gamers would love to see every PS1 game on PS Plus get trophy support, with the original Resident Evil trilogy being a common point of discussion. However, in a 2022 article fromPush Square, Sony confirmed that the decision for classic games to have trophies relies on the choice of the developer.

Unless we’re an actual developer working on the PS1 re-release, we don’t know how taxing it is to add trophy support, but if those classic games would get that feature on a more common basis, it would no doubt be welcomed by the community.

Furthermore, just imagine the added replayability it would provide by adding trophies to the aforementioned Resident Evil trilogy.

I know, back in the day, we never had such a thing as trophy support, but we’ve all been spoiled rotten, to be honest. But if PS1 trophy support became a new standard, it would be a joyous time for PlayStation retro gamers.

It might not be wise to hold our breath for PS1 trophy support to become common practice, but at least we can all dream.

Oh, and before you go, it’s perhaps worth mentioning that you don’t need to be a subscriber to PlayStation Plus to access classic PS1 games, because the moment they’re added to the library, they’re also made available as a standalone purchase.
