Artist pens fourth comic

A Kamloops comic book creator has self-published the fourth issue of his original series, and he’s taken his creations to comic fans across the province.

Nick Klie manages High Octane Comics, 250 Third Ave., and has been self-publishing his comic book series Life The Necropolis since 2023, with new issues coming out yearly.

In a news release, Klie said his latest book came together thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign.

“Backers funded the project in just over four hours, and then continues on to smash all his previous sales benchmarks,” the release states.

His science fiction series follows a wandering mercenary called Life. Each story is self contained, and Klie said the latest, titled Six Doomwrecked Knights, was heavily inspired by the 1978 animated Lord of the Rings film.

“This is a weird one. Sometimes Life has to fight a gang of mutants, or punch a wizard in the face,” Klie said.

“Now, Life has to wreck the party for an evil prince and his horrifying knights. Pretty literary stuff.”

Klie has previously said is art is drawn in a retro 1970s fantasy and sci-fi style that can be found in old Heavy Metal and Judge Dredd comic books.

Armed with his series of four books, Klie has been travelling around to Comic Cons across B.C., making stops in Vancouver, Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, Vancouver Island, as well as various <a href="https://comicvibe.com/10-best-tv-shows-like-sterling-point/” title=”10 Best TV Shows Like Sterling Point”>shows in Kamloops.

“I love it, I love every minute of it,” Klie said.

“Comic Cons are a riot. Rad people, awesome stuff everywhere, and you get to hang out with other creators. By the end of it, you’re totally zapped, and you can’t wait for the next one.”
