Kakao <a href="https://comicvibe.com/is-penn-entertainment-penn-stock-a-buy-after-its-latest-multi/” title=”Is PENN Entertainment (PENN) Stock a Buy After Its Latest Multi”>Entertainment plans to close Tapas and Kakao Webtoon and bring their content together on KakaoPage by 2026, according to a report from IT Chosun. The move will consolidate the company’s webtoon and web novel operations on a single platform.
KakaoPage is expected to gain thousands of webtoon and web novel properties currently spread across the services. The company also plans to combine its creator and partner networks, along with its content production, technology, marketing and operations capabilities, as part of the consolidation.
The integration will also bring together user payment and subscription data from the different platforms. According to the report, Kakao Entertainment plans to use the combined information for a new AI-based content recommendation system. The company also intends to centralise its ability to turn web novels and webtoons into other forms of entertainment, including dramas, films, performances and games.
KakaoPage is a South Korean digital content service launched in 2013. It supports written and visual content, including web novels and webtoons, and is operated by Kakao Entertainment. Kakao Webtoon began as Daum Webtoon in 2003 before becoming Kakao Webtoon in 2021. Tapas launched in 2012 and is an English-language webcomic and prose platform that is owned by Kakao Entertainment.
