Excitement around Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has been high among fans of the franchise. On Sunday, fans were treated with a first glimpse of actress Vidya Balan from the film. Notably, Vidya has officially joined Jailer 2 as Kantha in the second instalment.
Vidya Balan’s first look from Jailer 2 released
Sun Pictures released Vidya Balan’s character introduction video on Sunday, wherein she is seen in a striking blue saree. She brings an intense and commanding presence to the Rajinikanth-led film.
In the glimpse, Vidya is seen coming down the stairs in a commanding look, while holding a cigarette in her hand. The actress, in her role as Kantha, faces off in a tense moment while blowing smoke as she looks on. Her first look is paired with Anirudh’s upbeat score, which fills the mood.
Vidya’s character introduction comes after the makers introduced Suraj Venjaramoodu as Dileep last week. The video shows Suraj smoking a cigar as he gets out of the car, while sporting an all-new look.
About Jailer 2
Helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 witnesses the return of Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, while Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu also reprise their roles. The sequel also introduces Suraj Venjaramoodu and SJ Suryah, alongside Vidya Balan. The film is also rumoured to feature acameo by Hrithik Roshan.
The first part of Jailer was the story of a police officer who goes missing while investigating a ruthless idol smuggler. When the police force fails to help his son, Muthuvel, a former jailer, goes back to his old ways for his family. The film concludes with a twist and a showdown when a heartbroken Muthuvel is forced to make a tough choice.
The second film is believed to pick up where the first film left off. The makers made the first official announcement regarding the release date of Jailer 2 in July. The release date announcement came along with a slick, action-packed teaser, offering brief glimpses of its star-studded cast.
Although the teaser kept most of the details under wraps, it created intrigue with its intense visuals and high-stakes atmosphere. Jailer 2 is set to release worldwide on October 15, 2026, clashing with Dhanush’s Om, Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali, and Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar.
