Hideo Kojima Doesn’t Know If PHYSINT Will Release on PlayStation

Will PHYSINTcome to PlayStation? Hideo Kojima cannot confirm whether PHYSINT will come to Sony platforms. He said platform decisions are ultimately up to XBOX, which will announce more information in the future.

Hideo Kojima, of course, partnered with PlayStation to develop the upcoming project. However, PlayStation ultimately dropped the project, leading Kojima Productions to find a new partner in Microsoft’s Asha Sharma-led gaming division.

Microsoft is in the midst ofits own reset, and part of that reset has seen certain games return to being console exclusives after previous XBOX leadership said exclusives were anantiquated concept.

During an interview with IGN, Kojima was asked whether his next game could be released on a Sony platform despite their recent falling out. Ultimately, he said he doesn’t make those decisions.

I don’t know the answer to that – that would be a question for Xbox. But I don’t know for sure. In previous updates from Xbox, I thought that they have this kind of stance where they want to deliver to as many gamers as possible, no matter what the platform is. I think all of that will be announced at a later time. I’m not sure yet, and I can’t really say.

Elsewhere in the interview, Hideo Kojima explained that current XBOX leadership shares his view that this and other new IPs can expand beyond video games.

Kojima hopes to see his IP in movies, music, and other attractions, similar to Nintendo’s recent approach with top properties such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. Kojima even spoke fondly of Nintendo’s current direction when discussing his vision for his titles’ future.

I haven’t talked to them specifically, but Nintendo is doing something similar for Mario and Zelda with movies, attractions, and things like that. But I think that’s how Xbox sees it as well. Because it’s not the era of just game consoles. You create an IP, and it can be a game or a movie or music, and everything comes together. You can expand it to merchandising, too. And probably the next thing will be AR and stuff, and that would really affect our everyday lives in the future. And Nintendo has found great success with Super Mario at Universal Studios, with live attractions. So I think they were thinking of all this, probably. And I thought that really matches my vision of the future.

What do you think, will PHYSINT eventually come to PlayStation platforms anyway? Do you want to see more gaming properties expand into other forms of media? Sound off about this story and all others in our official Discord server.
