Jack Neo has once again used artificial intelligence (AI) in his creative process, releasing a song in celebration of National Day.

The 66-year-old local filmmaker uploaded his new track titled Singapore is Already 61 in an Instagram post yesterday (Aug 6).

The patriotic song, which Jack wrote the lyrics for, begins with a recount of the nation’s humble beginnings till her prosperity today. He also included various cultural elements such as our multi-racial society and local delicacies.

AI is used to compose the tune and provide the vocals, as well as to produce some of the images in the video, including of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

The lyrics in the last part of the song encourage viewers to embrace AI, reflecting Jack’s sentiments towards technology advancement.

“We have to learn AI, familiarise ourselves with technology to create more firsts and exercise more creativity, so we could plant our flag around the world,” he wrote in the lyrics.

Jack, who is currently working on his new Ah Boys to Firemen movie, told Vibes by 8World in an interview yesterday that he started writing the lyrics about two months ago.

He also shared that the process of creating the song through AI was much faster as compared to when he used it last year.

Last August, he released a music video for his song titled We Are Singapore. Similarly, he wrote the lyrics himself, with the tune and vocals done by AI.

Jack shared with Lianhe Zaobao yesterday that while the images in his latest music video were partially produced by AI, the final video was edited manually.

He also believed he should write his own song lyrics for it to be sincere and meaningful.

“AI-generated lyrics are all in the same style and you can tell from a glance. My lyrics don’t use AI, they contain my original creative intentions and observations of society, so I think based on this alone, we can definitely beat AI,” he added.

Acting for a living can take you down some peculiar avenues. Consider Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg. In the 2010s, they lent their voices to the “Rio” movies as an oil and water pair of blue Spix’s macaws who fall in love. But a decade before becoming animated amorous at-lived dramedy series “Get Real.”
