Eisner and Harvey Award-winning writer Derek Kirk Kim (The Last Mermaid, Same Difference) is teaming up with rising artist Jacob Perez (Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) for a new, high-stakes crime caper. Image Comics officially announced today that the duo’s upcoming graphic novel, Royals, will hit shelves later this fall.
Set in the shadowy back alleys of Seoul, South Korea, Royals follows twin brothers Paul and Castor who have crafted the perfect poker hustle using their uncanny telepathic connection. Perfect, that is, until they’re caught red-handed by the most ruthless criminal syndicate in Seoul. To pay them back, the brothers must pull off a daring heist and use their gift for something bigger than themselves for the first time in their lives…but only if they don’t wind up killing each other first!
-Official synopsis
Set against the neon-lit backdrop of Seoul, South Korea, Royals follows twin brothers Paul and Castor. The duo has built a reputation for running the perfect poker hustle, thanks to their secret telepathic connection. However, their luck runs out when they cross paths with one of the city’s most ruthless criminal syndicates. To clear their debt, the brothers are forced into a dangerous heist, requiring them to use their unique abilities for a mission far greater—and more perilous—than any hustle they’ve pulled before.
Praise for the book has already begun to trickle in, with The Comics Beat calling it a “very well-executed comic book,” and AIPT describing it as a “brotherly love/hate vibing crime-caper hit up with a side of slapstick-comedy on the neon soaked streets of Seoul.”
