A mainstream Hindi movie like Ikka isn’t what you immediately associate with Tillotama Shome. But that’s exactly the change of pace the actor was seeking after building a career on powerful movies like Qissa (2014), A Death in the Gunj (2017) and Jugnuma (2025). With director Siddharth P Malhotra’s courtroom thriller – also starring Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna, and Dia Mirza – Shome is consciously exploring a different brand of cinema
“I don’t want to be a flag-bearer of only one kind of cinema. I want to do all kinds of films, as long as they are ethically in sync with the way I look at life,” said the actor, adding that while she has often been perceived as a serious performer, the change began within

“Living with my husband [Kunal Ross], who has such a wonderful sense of humour, made me realise I took life too seriously. I wanted to respond to that by trying comedy and different genres.” That shift has also changed the kind of work coming her way. “Sometimes the script may not be my aesthetic, but the people are amazing. You learn so much. That flexibility has been healthier for me.”
Ikka gave her the opportunity to work with Deol and Khannafor the first time. While she didn’t interact much with Khanna as “he was in character” during the shoot, she was touched by Deol’s generosity as a co-actor. “During one of my close-up scenes, there were flies around his eyes and one had reached his waterline. I kept thinking he’d call for a cut, but he didn’t. Afterwards, he simply said, âI didn’t want to spoil your take because it was going so well’.”
July 10When âIkka’ begins streaming on Netflix
