When their home of Destiny Island is lost to the darkness, they are scattered across the cosmos. Now with a Keyblade of his own, Sora embarks on a quest to find his friends and stop the Heartless. Along the way, he’s joined by servants of King Mickey sent to help the Keyblade wielder: the royal court sorcerer Donald Duck and the captain of the knights, Goofy. Together, the trio ventures across several worlds and encounters all sorts of heroes and villains on their quest.

Kingdom Hearts is an ideal crossover mechanism, as the underlying premise invites a sense of exploration and adventure that can go from world to world. Levels in the first game alone include Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), and The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).
