Mumbai came alive in a riot of colour, costumes, music and fandom as Anime India Mumbai 2026 transformed Nesco Exhibition Centre into a massive celebration of anime and Japanese pop culture from 28 to 30 August.

From fans arriving in elaborate cosplay to creators sharing their journeys, from competitive gaming and manga sessions to Japanese music and voice-acting experiences, the three-day event offered a packed celebration for India’s rapidly growing anime community. And when the final day came to a close, the festival went out on a high, with a spectacular concert that brought thousands of fans together for one final celebration.

With more than 45,000 attendees, the Mumbai edition emerged as one of the city’s biggest anime and Japanese pop-culture gatherings, reflecting the growing scale, diversity and enthusiasm of India’s anime fandom.

Three days. Countless fandoms. One massive celebration.

The opening day set the tone with an eclectic mix of entertainment and interactive programming. Fans participated in the Otaku quiz and The Last Verdict anime gameshow, while voice-acting sessions featuring voices associated with popular anime including Spy x Family, Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer gave audiences an opportunity to get closer to the craft behind some of their favourite characters.

The day also featured Action Kamen, the Ramen Quiz Competition powered by Wok Tok, Gunpla: More Than Models, manga, manhwa and comic book launches, and a Closet Cosplay segment, ensuring that there was something for every corner of the fandom.

Day two kept the momentum going with an equally packed schedule. From The Great BL Debate and meet-and-greets to gaming activities and quiz competitions, the day brought fans together through a mix of entertainment, conversations and interactive experiences.

The Sakamoto Daysproducer session, creator engagements, XP-Pen and Wacom activities, a Japanese song learning session and an Asca meet-and-greet added further variety to the programme. Fans also got the chance to participate in the Naruto fan session with Date-san, witness a Zee trailer launch and compete in the gaming cosplay competition.

    Cosplay mode: ON!

The final day featured some of the most anticipated community-driven activities of the weekend, including the Naruto Cosplay Competition, Anime Times Presents: Discover Japanese Animation, Naruto commentary sessions, the Gacha Realm session, anime screenings, prop-making and manga art competitions, comic-focused sessions, the Grand Cosplay Competition and Mage Masquerade, among several other activities.

For fans, it was more than a convention schedule. It was an opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts, celebrate their favourite stories and characters, discover new creators and simply be part of a community that continues to grow across India.

And then, Mumbai turned up the volume

    Musical duo: MofMofMo

After three days of anime, cosplay, gaming and fandom, Anime India Mumbai 2026 saved one of its biggest moments for the finale. The festival concluded on 30 August with a high-energy concert, drawing a massive crowd as fans came together to celebrate Japanese music and the culture they had spent the weekend immersing themselves in. The concert featured performances by Luna, Mofomofomo, Yura Akari and Asca, turning the closing evening into a vibrant musical finale and giving thousands of fans a memorable send-off.

It was the kind of ending that perfectly captured the spirit of the weekend, loud, colourful, energetic and driven by fandom.

“Mumbai has shown us that India isn’t just an audience for anime anymore” Reflecting on the overwhelming response to the Mumbai edition, Anime India Co-Founder Neha Mehta said: “Anime India Mumbai 2026 has been an incredible celebration of the passion, creativity and community that make India’s anime fandom truly special. What started as a vision to bring global anime closer to Indian fans has grown into a movement that connects fans, creators, artists and the industry under one roof. Seeing thousands of fans come together, celebrate the stories they love and create memories of their own has been deeply fulfilling. Mumbai has shown us that India isn’t just an audience for anime anymore; it is becoming an important part of the global anime ecosystem. This is only the beginning, and we are excited to take Anime India to even greater heights.”

Anime India co-founder Mishaal Wanvari added: “Mumbai has once again shown us the extraordinary power of fandom. Anime India was created with a simple belief that Indian fans deserve to experience the world of anime in a truly immersive way, while also giving Indian creators a platform to be seen and heard. This edition has taken that vision several steps forward. From legendary Japanese creators and artists to cosplayers, gamers, collectors and young creators, Anime India Mumbai 2026 brought the entire community together. We are incredibly grateful to every fan who made this experience possible. The energy we witnessed over these three days tells us one thing very clearly: the future of anime in India is bigger than ever.”

From fans to creators, India’s anime culture is evolving

The scale of Anime India Mumbai 2026 reflects a larger shift taking place within India’s anime community.

Anime fandom is no longer limited to watching shows. It has evolved into a highly participatory culture where fans cosplay, create fan art, collect merchandise, play games, attend screenings, learn Japanese music, engage with creators and build communities around the stories they love. That evolution was visible throughout the three days at Nesco.

Cosplayers brought beloved characters to life. Artists and creators showcased their work. Gamers competed and connected. Fans gathered around manga and anime conversations. Japanese music became a shared experience. And across the venue, thousands of people found common ground through stories and characters that have travelled across borders and generations.

For AnimationXpress, Anime India Mumbai 2026 also represents a larger commitment to creating platforms that connect the animation, gaming, entertainment and pop-culture ecosystems, while opening new opportunities for creators, brands and industry stakeholders.

Mumbai may have brought this chapter to a spectacular close, but the Anime India journey is far from over. Following successful editions across Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, Anime India is now heading to Hyderabad on 14 and 15 November 2026.

The next edition promises another opportunity for fans to experience anime, Japanese pop culture and fandom up close, bringing the celebration to a new city and an even wider audience. With more than 45,000 fans becoming part of Anime India Mumbai 2026, the message from Mumbai was unmistakable: India’s anime community is growing, becoming more diverse and increasingly connected to the global anime ecosystem.
