A book talk and signing tied to a newly published historical graphic novel about William Rotch Sr. will be held at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum in New Bedford later this month

The event is scheduled for July 29 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., according to a community announcement, and will feature author Sarah Crabtree and illustrator Melissa Philley discussing their work, “Quaker, Whaler, Traitor, Spy! The Trials of William Rotch.” The pair will also sign copies of the book

A limited number of books will be available for purchase at the event, and attendees are encouraged to pre-purchase copies through the museum shop or online to ensure availability. The book can be purchased at rjdmuseumshop.square.site

The program is part of a broader exhibition, “The Revolutionary Journey of William Rotch Sr.,” now on display at the museum through Aug. 2. According to the announcement, the exhibition explores the life and experiences of Rotch, a prominent figure in New Bedford’s whaling history

The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum is located at 396 County St. in New Bedford. The historic house, built in 1834 for whaling merchant William Rotch Jr., is a Greek Revival mansion situated on a full city block of formal gardens and is designated as a National Historic Landmark

The museum’s period rooms document more than 150 years of economic and social change in New Bedford through the lives of the Rotch, Jones and Duff families and their domestic staff, according to the announcement

The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and from Memorial Day through Indigenous Peoples Day it is also open Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults; $6 for AAA members, seniors and students; and $3 for children ages 7-17. Admission is free for members and for EBT, ConnectorCare, WIC and Wunderfund cardholders

The grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset at no cost. More information about hours and programming is available at rjdmuseum.org
