Friday night football was a tale of pouring rain, overtime victories and underdogs.
A slate of games had to be postponed due to thunderstorms. One highly anticipated matchup was between West Boca Raton and Washington D.C. powerhouse St. John’s. The game was played on Saturday, Sept. 19, and ended with a 15-14 St. John’s victory.
Kings Academy won against American Heritage-Delray in a 25-24 overtime thriller thanks to some late-game heroics. Wide receiver Jack Miller had a highlight-reel grab in the fourth for a touchdown to put the team in striking distance. In overtime, the Lions went for the 2-point conversion to win it all. Quarterback DJ Benneby took it in himself on a scramble, handing the Stallions their first loss of the season.Â
A team people may not have expected to hear about much this season is John I. Leonard.
The Lancers had a 1-29 record over the last three years, but are now 4-0 after their 45-35 win over Marathon High in the Florida Keys. They did almost all of their damage on the ground with star running back Latrell Johnson and QB Cae
