Celebrating her over six-decade film career with a concert today, Hema Malini says it’s her way of honouring her late husband Dharmendra and other co-stars

For 63 years, Hema Malinihas been right where she loves – in front of the camera. An enduring career as hers ought to be celebrated, and that’s exactly what she is doing with Hema Malini: Live in Concert, a show that will see singers and co-actors look back at her journey through her film songs
Ahead of the July 10 show, the veteran actor told mid-day that the idea came about while developing her book. Malini shared, “Author and RJ Anirudh Chawla is writing a book and stage tribute titled Hema Malini: The Story of Hema Malini in Her Own Words. In the book, he is writing about popular songs in my movies. While doing that, he realised it’s been [over] 60 years for me in the film industry. I have worked with so many artistes – from heroes and villains to directors and composers. I felt that I must honour the people who were part of my journey.”
An integral part of Malini’s life and career was superstar and her husband, late Dharmendra. It’s only fitting that a segment of the evening will be dedicated to him. “It will be like a shraddhanjali, a tribute to Dharamji too through his popular songs. While many people have paid tributes to him, I needed to do one and this was the perfect occasion,” she added
The late actor also played a role in developing her upcoming book. Remembering his contributions, Malini said, “Dharamji would also sit in during our discussions. He was very involved in the book, discussing which songs would be included. When Dharamji passed away, we thought we should complete the book.”
