It has now been confirmed that the Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look, featuring nearly 27 minutes of new gameplay footage, was captured entirely on the PlayStation 5 rather than the more powerful PS5 Pro. The revelation offers fans a first proper indication of what GTA 6 can look like running on the standard PS5 hardware.

Across nearly 27 minutes, we got an extensive look at the new and improved Vice City, how Jason and Lucia navigate the world, spectacular action sequences, missions that quickly spiral out of control, and plenty more.

Although Rockstar Games is calling it an “Extended Look” rather than a traditional trailer, there’s a strong chance we haven’t seen the last major GTA VI showcase before launch. We can surely expect a GTA VI launch trailer, and hopefully it will eventually be followed by our first official look at the next evolution of GTA Online.

GTA VI will push the base PS5 to its absolute limits

What we saw during the GTA VI ‘Extended Look’ on Netflix was officially confirmed to be running on the base PS5 at the very end of the presentation, with Netflix also reiterating the details on its Tudum website.

“Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, this extended look at the next Grand Theft Auto showcases the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet,” read the article post.

So, just imagine how good GTA VI could look on the PlayStation 5 Pro, as well as on PC whenever Rockstar Games eventually brings the highly anticipated open-world game to the platform. However, there is one significant drawback to running GTA VI on the base PS5, and it also applies to Xbox Series X|S.

GTA VI will be locked at 30fps

YouTuber and content creator Davy Jones of Flow Games, who attended an exclusive Rockstar Games event at the studio’s headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland, alongside other outlets and creators, has revealed that GTA VI will be locked at 30 frames per second at launch. The game’s 30fps cap was also confirmed by GTA VI lead developer and co-director Rob Nelson.

Importantly, the 30fps cap won’t be exclusive to the base PS5. GTA VI will also run at 30fps on the PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S at launch. While the PS5 Pro is expected to offer a higher resolution and potentially improved loading times, the lack of a dedicated 60fps performance mode may come as a disappointment to some players.

Rockstar Games has not confirmed whether GTA VI will receive a 60fps performance mode in a future update. For now, players hoping to experience Rockstar’s latest open-world epic at 60fps will have to keep their fingers crossed. Nelson did state, however, that he’d need “to consult the technical team to determine if there will be a 60fps option at launch or later”.

If worst comes to worst, and no current-gen consoles get a 60fps performance mode, we’d most likely have to wait for the PC and PlayStation 6 (you know it will happen) ports.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
