Gen Con Indy 2026 is in the books, and now organizers are taking a look back at this year’s convention by the numbers.
This year, the Indianapolis Convention Center welcomed a sell-out crowd of more than 74,000 attendees, breaking the all-time attendance record and raking in more than $83.5 million dollars for local businesses
It’s the largest and longest-running tabletop gaming convention in North America, starting in 1968. This year, it featured more than 800 vendors and fans from more than 45 countries.
Gen Con also partners with charities and fundraises for a selected nonprofit each year. This year, fans raised nearly $50,000 for Super Heroines, Etc. and Immigrant Welcome Center, according to organizers. The convention also partnered with Make-A-Wish to grant the wish of a teen named Eleanor to attend the festivities.
On Saturday, which is typically one of the busiest days of the convention, severe storms swept through the downtown area, prompting a leak in the convention center roof and a tornado warning just southeast of downtown. Organizers say staff quickly responded to make repairs and the convention continued with minimal disruptions.
“Even through construction and thunderstorms, Gen Con 2026 was bigger and better than ever, with a record-breaking number of attendees gathering in Indianapolis for The Best Four Days in Gaming,” said Gen Con President David Hoppe in a statement. “We can’t thank Indy enough for hosting us, and we’re already looking forward to our 60th anniversary convention in an expanded Indiana Convention Center next year.”
Organizers are already planning for next year, so if you plan to attend, mark your calendars for Aug. 5-8.
Organizers say the 2027 convention will be expanded for the 60th anniversary, including the new Signia by Hilton Hotel, set to open in February.
Badges for the convention will go on sale in early 2027.
