Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 has brought Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, and Mega Man to the popular battle royale game, yet one popular crossover featured on its key art still hasn’t arrived. Epic Games has now confirmed that the Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab goes live on September 17, bringing Sora and three more characters to the battle royale.
The reveal ends a seven-month wait that started with a leak in February. According to Hypex, the most reputable Fortnite leaker, four Kingdom Hearts skins are coming this week. On top of this, the update should add the Kingdom Key to the loot pool, making this more than just a cosmetic collab.
When does the Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab start?
The Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab starts on Thursday, September 17, as it arrives alongside the v42.20 update. At the moment, it’s unknown if the skins will be available in the Item Shop right after the servers come back up, as the update goes live in the morning. If not, then Epic will release the new skins with its regular shop rotation at night.
One of the skins coming with the collab is Sora. Sora was first spotted in the Fortnite Override key art before the season launched on August 20, although he didn’t appear in the season trailer. On September 13, Epic Games finally showed his in-game model in a short teaser in which the Kingdom Hearts hero picks up his Keyblade.
The outfit is based on Sora’s design from Kingdom Hearts 2. Epic may also add more styles for the iconic character, although they haven’t been revealed yet. Considering that Sora was seen picking up his Keyblade, which has a llama charm, this will likely be a pickaxe and may also be usable as a melee weapon in battle royale matches.
Sora won’t be the only Kingdom Hearts character to join Fortnite. Shortly after the teaser, the official Fortnite account posted four quotes from the Kingdom Hearts series, each signed with a single letter: S, K, R, and R. Hypex then reported that Kairi, Riku, and Roxas are also getting skins this week, although their Fortnite designs have not been shown yet.
All Kingdom Hearts cosmetics and items coming to Fortnite
Epic Games has confirmed only a handful of items so far, but dataminers have already filled in some of the gaps. Here are all the Kingdom Hearts cosmetics and items expected to arrive in Fortnite, along with their current status:
| Item | Type | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Sora | Outfit | Confirmed by Epic Games |
| Kairi | Outfit | Teased by Epic Games |
| Riku | Outfit | Teased by Epic Games |
| Roxas | Outfit | Teased by Epic Games |
| Kingdom Key | Weapon | Confirmed by Epic Games |
| Keyblade | Pickaxe | Expected |
| Gummi Ship | Car | Leaked by dataminers |
It’s important to note that not everything has been 100% confirmed, and Epic may change a couple of things before the items come to the Item Shop. The Gummi Ship vehicle will likely be usable in both Fortnite and Rocket League.
Epic Games has not revealed any prices yet. Considering that collaboration skins usually cost 1,500 or 1,800 V-Bucks, we expect every Kingdom Hearts skin to have a similar price tag. At the same time, Epic will likely release a couple of bundles, which will cost more but also offer discounts.
The Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab was leaked a while ago
The Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts collab first surfaced in February, when leaker AdiraFNInfo claimed that it was in development. This leaker was eventually sued by Epic for leaking and revealing the company’s plans.
Initially, many players doubted the leak, as nothing appeared in the game for months. Things changed in June, when dataminers found a Gummi Ship anthem in Rocket League’s files, and Epic Games confirmed the Kingdom Key in August.
This timing also works well for Square Enix, as the Kingdom Hearts Collection launches on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 8. Kingdom Hearts 4 is set to follow in late 2027, so a Fortnite crossover is a good way to introduce Sora to a younger audience before then.
