Fortnite teases mysterious character joining Mega Man in upcoming crossover
Here’s everything we know about the Fortnite x Mega Man crossover so far.
Fortnite’s Override season launched three weeks ago, revealing a wealth of collaborations with iconic video game characters including Mega Man. Those eager to meet the blue humanoid robot from Capcom’s long-running franchise could do so soon, as the full crossover is reportedly happening in Fortnite sometime this week.
Epic Games has just hosted a themed in-game tournament called the Mega Man Cup, allowing participants to compete for exclusive Mega Man cosmetics, including the Mega Man X Outfit, Spinning Blade Pickaxe, and Override Buster Blast Spray.
This event is expected to lead into the full release of the Mega Man collaboration in Fortnite, with the themed cosmetics likely hitting the in-game shop soon–potentially on Thursday or Friday.
Earlier today, the Fortnite X account posted a brief video teaser suggesting that Mega Man would not arrive alone. The teaser showed a player selection screen featuring Mega Man alongside a mysterious silhouette. According to internet sleuths, the silhouette belongs to none other than Zero from Mega Man X.
What Mega Man cosmetics are coming to Fortnite?
Fortnite creator and Epic Games partner HYPEX posted a “full showcase” of the Mega Man crossover, revealing the cosmetics expected to arrive with the collaboration.
As seen in the video, there will be a Mega Man Outfit, featuring his default blue humanoid robot appearance. It also comes with an alternate Atomic Fire style, which gives Mega Man a yellow-and-red appearance inspired by Heat Man’s special weapon of the same name.
The Outfit also comes with two shading options: a gradient 3D look and a cel-shaded appearance that gives Mega Man a 2D anime-inspired visual style. Players can also choose whether Mega Man wears his helmet, with the alternative revealing his black hair.
The other skin is Mega Man X, the futuristic version of the humanoid robot with a sleeker and sharper appearance. HYPEX’s showcase shows that the Outfit only comes with the two shading options as customisation choices.
The third Mega Man skin featured is Zero, a robot originally created by the antagonist Dr Wily to destroy Mega Man. He later became one of the main heroes of the Mega Man X series and the protagonist of his own spin-off series, Mega Man Zero.
His Fortnite skin adapts his fierce appearance, with the Fortnite client seen describing him as “the ultimate combat robot”. The Outfit comes in two styles: his default red-and-white appearance and a black variant called Black Zero. The Zero Outfit also comes with cel-shaded and gradient-shaded options.
Other Mega Man cosmetics coming to Fortnite, as shown in the video, are:
- Z-Saber Back Bling
- E-Tank Power Pack Back Bling
- Z-Saber Pickaxe, with an alternate Violet Blade style
- Buster Cannon Fire Sword Pickaxe
- Buster Cannon Blades Pickaxe
- Mega Buster Flex Emote
- Mega Man 8-Bit Emote
- Override Buster Blast Emote
- Rush’s Growl Emote
- Rush Sidekick
