Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Override: New Map, Sprites, Weapons and More
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 is almost here, and Override is set to bring another major shakeup to Battle Royale when it launches on August 20.
The new season continues the Sprite system introduced in Chapter 7 Season 3 while transforming a large portion of the Island and introducing new weapons, crossover items, locations and a match-changing Cartridge mechanic.
Here’s everything we know so far about Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4.
Override won’t completely replace the Chapter 7 map, but several major locations are disappearing.
Three existing POIs are to be removed:
- Calamari Canyon
- Frosted Flats
- Sinister Strip
Five new locations are taking their place:
- Geno’s HQ
- Sonic Green Hills Zone
- Temple
- The Spire
- Pac-Man Island
The biggest change is happening in the center of the Island, where The Spire becomes a major focal point for Season 4. The surrounding area has also been redesigned with a new environment featuring distinctive pink trees.

Sprites aren’t going anywhere.
Epic Games has officially confirmed that Override will introduce an entirely new generation of Sprites, complete with new powers, variants and improvements to how players discover and collect them.
Several Season 4 Sprites have already appeared in promotional material and reports surrounding the new season, including:
- Bushranger
- Sonic
- Tails
- Jazz Jackrabbit
- Klombo
- Killswitch
- Crown
The Sonic Sprite appears to provide increased movement speed, while the Tails Sprite can help players glide through the air. More Sprite abilities are expected to be revealed once the season launches.
Five community-created Sprites from Epic’s Design-A-Sprite contest are also planned for mid-season updates:
- Bullet Sprite
- Dumpster Dive Sprite
- Honey Sprite
- Pond Sprite
- X-Ray Sprite

Epic is also expanding the system outside normal Battle Royale matches with the new Sprite Garden.
The Sprite Garden is a separate island where players will be able to interact with their collection, display their Sprites and visit their friends’ gardens. Sprites collected during Season 3 will remain visible there, and any new Sprites obtained during Season 4 will automatically join the Garden.

New Weapons Join the Loot Pool
Override introduces several weapons built around the season’s video game-inspired theme.
One of the biggest additions is the 8-Bit Shotgun, which incorporates the season’s new Cartridge mechanics.
Weapons from Cyberpunk 2077 also appear in the Override trailer, including the:
- HJSH-18 Masamune
- TKI-20 Shingen
More returning and unvaulted weapons should become clear once the v42.00 update goes live.
Sonic, Mega Man, and Tetris Mythics
The Sonic Spin Dash lets players rapidly move across the map and even run along vertical surfaces.
Mega Man brings his iconic blaster to Fortnite, including a chargeable attack.
Tetris is also getting its own gameplay item. The Tetriminos Junk Rift functions similarly to Fortnite’s traditional Junk Rift, except massive Tetris blocks fall from the sky instead.
These items fit into Override’s larger focus on gaming history, with Sonic, Pac-Man, Mega Man and other franchises appearing throughout the season.

Cartridges Can Change an Entire Match
Override introduces a new Cartridge system that can change the rules of a match.
Players can find Cartridges and place them into a device on the Island. Once activated, the Cartridge gives a special effect to everyone in the match, not just one player.
The active Cartridge can also be replaced later in the game, changing the effect for everyone.
Gaming Legends Take Over Fortnite
Override’s theme heavily revolves around video games, and Epic has already teased or confirmed appearances from several major franchises.
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Pac-Man
- Mega Man
- Tetris
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Crash Bandicoot
- Persona
The new map itself reflects that crossover-heavy direction, with places like Green Hills Zone and Pac-Man Island becoming actual parts of the Battle Royale Island.
More collaborations are likely to roll out throughout the season rather than appearing entirely on launch day.

The Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass features eight new Outfits, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Geno, Wrixel, Grace Crowne, Phantom, Mali, K1TTYW1NS and Bastian.
Sonic also comes with themed cosmetics and a Super Sonic transformation, while Wrixel features extensive customization options.
The pass costs 800 V-Bucks and is also included with Fortnite Crew.
