EPCOT's Iconic Spaceship Earth Is Getting the Disney+ Treatment
    • Disney+ has ordered a pilot for a television series inspired by EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth ride, reimagining the park’s iconic geodesic sphere as the launchpad for an original science-fiction adventure.
    • Jason Fuchs leads the project as showrunner and executive producer, with Lee Toland Krieger directing the pilot and a logline revealing a time-spanning adventure involving a small band of teenagers from Earth’s past and future confronting a mysterious threat.
    • The Spaceship Earth TV series pilot, if ordered to series by Disney+, would continue the trend of transforming park attractions into onscreen franchises, following successful adaptations like Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, and Country Bear Jamboree.

Disney+ has ordered a pilot for a television series inspired by EPCOT‘s Spaceship Earth ride. The project reimagines the park’s iconic geodesic sphere as the launchpad for an original science-fiction adventure.

Spaceship Earth TV series gets pilot order at Disney+

Jason Fuchs leads the project as showrunner and executive producerctor whose work spans You, Riverdale, and Shadow & Bone, will direct the Spaceship Earth TV pilot and also hold an executive producer credit

The pilot’s logline reveals a time-spanning adventure: “When a mission to avert an imminent global cataclysm goes awry, a small band of teenagers from Earth’s past and future must join forces to confront a threat as vast and mysterious as time itself.” Casting for the pilot has already begun.

Spaceship Earth opened with EPCOT in 1982 and sits inside the enormous geodesic sphere that dominates the park’s entrance. The attraction guides visitors through pivotal moments in the history of communication, showcasing breakthroughs such as the alphabet, the printing press, the telephone, radio, and the internet.

Over four decades, Disney has refreshed the ride multiple times while preserving its core focus on human connection across time. The pilot borrows the ride’s fascination with past and future, though it crafts an original sci-fi narrative rather than adapting the educational voyage directly.

Adam Fishbach, known for Love, Victor and The Other Black Girl, joins as executive producer alongside Anomaly Pictures’ Adam Fasullo. 20th Television handles production duties, with both Anomaly and Fishbach operating under overall deals at the studio. Michael Waldron, the writer who worked on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, executive-produces through his Anomaly Pictures banner.

Moreover, if Disney+ orders the pilot to series, the show would extend a lucrative strategy of transforming park attractions into onscreen franchises. The Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, and Country Bear Jamboree also made the leap from rides to movies.
