    Key Points

    • Netflix stuck a man inside a Los Angeles billboard to promote its new sci-fi thriller The Last House.

    • The guy is spending several days in a makeshift living room, mirroring the film’s plot about a family trapped in their home.

    • Entertainment Weekly has firsthand footage of the publicity stunt.

The nightmare plot of Netflix’s The Last House is currently coming to life 30 feet over Sunset Boulevard.

To promote the new sci-fi thriller about a family trapped inside their home, the streamer stuck a man inside a Los Angeles billboard to exist in a fully furnished living room from Thursday through Saturday. Below the makeshift home’s bay window reads: “How long can you survive?”

At the very least, the man should be able to endure the brutal heat wave currently smothering Southern California, as we hear the faux home is air-conditioned. Netflix didn’t immediately respond to whether there’s also a bathroom.

Entertainment Weekly stopped by the intersection of Sunset and Selma Avenue to witness the robe-clad man on display as he interacted with passersby below using a whiteboard while attempting to “carry on as normally as possible.” (See video above.)

To keep occupied, there are plenty of books visible on shelves (including one aptly titled At Home), a pack of playing cards for endless games of Solitaire, and a globe to brush up on his geography.

The man has also been observed using binoculars to take in the sights from his 30-foot perch over the Sunset Strip.

The Last House, directed by Louis Leterrier, stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura as a couple sealed inside their residence with their two young children, working together to survive a mysterious outside threat as their re

“The Last House challenges the idea of a safe haven, turning a family home into a hostile environment where survival demands unity,” Leterrier told Netflix’s Tudum. “This is an ordinary family’s worst nightmare, pushing them to their limits to protect each other and exposing the fragility of security — and the desperate fight to reclaim it.”

The director explained that he was intrigued by Matthew Robinson’s script and “the notion of what it might mean to wake up one day and be physically sealed in your home — and not even understand why.”

Lee, who recently voiced Lilypad in Toy Story 5, was “immediately drawn” to the survivalist story with a twist. “I love the questions this movie asks about our world and how we choose to live in it,” she told Tudum. “And I was excited about the possibility of asking these questions in a new and entertaining way.”

Although the characters are stuck inside their house, Moura noted that the plot isn’t stagnant.

“The storyline will evolve in ways that the audience certainly will not expect,” teased the Narcos alum, “but that is what makes this film so interesting. There are layers and twists that I can’t wait for everyone to see.”

The Last House hits Netflix on Friday.
