No No Power Rangerssss. Those Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will not get to have any adventures at Disney+ after the streamer cancelled its live-action series. This project by Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz began development back in 2024. And sadly, it never even made it out of the development stage. It’s been a rough road for Power Rangers fans for many years, with a few unrealized projects and meh-to-decent movies.

A POWER RANGERS Series at Disney+ Is in the Works

According to Deadline, the reason why Disney+ cancelled the live-action Power Rangers series isn’t about creative differences, but budgetary ones. Bringing the spectacle that many modern and potentially new fans will want to see is a big investment for an IP that Disney does not own. Of course, the Power Rangersbrand is owned by Hasbro. The company wants to get a live-action series going for a new generation. There was some nostalgia-driven success at Netflix with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, a reunion special in 2023.

Nerdist’s Take: Hasbro Should Partner With Amazon MGM Studios and Bring a Live-ActionPower Rangers Series to Prime Video

Amazon MGM Studios and Hasbro are currently working on a Jem and the Holograms live-action series. And, Amazon’s Masters of the Universe film, while not a box-office success, got a love of streaming love and overall praise from fans for capturing the world’s goofy spirit. MOTU and Power Rangersfeel like distant cousins in terms of their foundations. Both are nostalgia-driven franchises looking to tap into those now-adult fans and bring their kids into the fold.

They both have similar themes like cosmic elements, hidden identities, monsters of the week and recurring villains that resonate with fans. Considering how well Amazon did with bringing MOTU to life and that the company certainly has the money to pour into a series, it wouldn’t be a bad move to partner with them

Hopefully, Hasbro will find the right place to make a live-action Power Rangersseries happen after this unfortunate cancellation at Disney.
