Disney fans received a major update on the company’s future slate during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 on August 14, 2026. The event, held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as part of the three-day Ultimate Disney Fan Event, delivered new details, release dates, casting information, and project confirmations across Marvel Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios, live-action productions, 20th Century Studios, Lucasfilm, and Disney+ programming. In total, 21 movies and television shows received announcements or expanded information, spanning theatrical releases and streaming series that extend from late 2026 into 2029.
Marvel Studios dominated much of the attention with four key projects. The studio confirmed a full X-Men reboot scheduled for theaters on May 5, 2028, directed by Jake Schreier. The ensemble cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. Avengers: Doomsday is locked for a December 18, 2026 release and will feature returning legacy Fox actors including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Footage presented during the showcase depicted Doctor Doom assembling an army of mutant-hunting Sentinels. Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027, positioned as the culmination of the Multiverse Saga. On the television side, VisionQuest arrives onDisney+ as a series centered on Vision’s glitchy mind, with Paul Bettany returning in the title role and James Spader appearing as a human-faced Ultron.
Pixar Animation Studios outlined four films. Gatto, an original story set in Italy, reaches theaters on March 5, 2027, and follows Nero, a street-smart black cat voiced by Mark Ruffalo, as he navigates the canals of Venice. Ghost Market, Pixar’s first ghost-centered movie, is scheduled for spring 2028. Directed by Trevor Jimenez, it follows Chicago teenager Kyle as he discovers a hidden supernatural bazaar where the living and the dead conduct business. The Incredibles III lands on June 18, 2028, with Peter Sohn directing. Concept art confirmed the return of the Parr family, Frozone, and Edna Mode as they confront a villain more powerful than the entire family combined. Coco 2 is set for November 2029 and picks up with a teenage Miguel facing a vengeful Ernesto de la Cruz, once again voiced by Benjamin Bratt.
Walt Disney Animation and live-action divisions contributed five projects. The Princess Diaries 3 was officially confirmed as in development, with Anne Hathaway’s involvement affirmed during the event. Lilo & Stitch 2 arrives on May 26, 2028, and will prominently feature Angel, also known as Experiment 624. Zootopia 3 received confirmation from Jared Bush, with Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan returning as Judy Hopps and Gary; the storyline suggests the city is going to the birds. A live-action Tangled adaptation stars Teagan Croft as Rapunzel alongside Milo Manheim and Kathryn Hahn, with footage showing Rapunzel using her iconic frying pan. Oswald, a three-part live-action-animation hybrid series, debuts on Disney+ in February 2027. Directed by Jon Favreau and starring Kathryn Hahn, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Amy Sedaris, and Steve Martin, the series incorporates 2D hand-drawn animation.
20th Century Studios added two titles. The New Simpsons Movie is scheduled for theatrical release on September 3, 2027, with storyboards depicting a comical sequence of Homer pursuing a runaway baseball across Springfield before Bart catches it. Ice Age: Boiling Point was also officially announced as the next entry in the long-running animated franchise.
Lucasfilm focused on the Star Wars universe with two projects. Star Wars: Starfighter hits theaters on May 28, 2027. Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling as pilot Kade Auberon, the story is set five years after The Rise of Skywalker and follows the discovery of a child. Ahsoka Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on January 20, with new material teasing Clone Wars-era flashbacks featuring Anakin Skywalker and Grand Admiral Thrawn declaring war on the Rebel Alliance.
Television and streaming content rounded out the announcements with four additional projects. Kingdom Hearts becomes an original anime series on Disney+ that adapts the Square Enix video game franchise, following Sora as he fights alongside classic Disney characters. The Bluey Movie was confirmed as a feature-length film adaptation of the popular animated series. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 premieres on November 20 and adapts The Titan’s Curse, introducing the Hunters of Artemis led by Dafne Keen as Artemis and Holt McCallany as the Titan Atlas. Finally, LION is a National Geographic docuseries executive-produced by Jon Favreau and Mike Gunton that tells a true story set in Kenya’s Maasai Mara.
