Marvel is bringing Daredevil: Born Again to an end.
The Disney+ action series will conclude with its upcoming third season which reports that Marvel has quietly decided not to continue the series beyond season 3. The news comes roughly two months after production wrapped on the show’s final season
The decision arrives after Daredevil: Born Again earned strong reviews from critics, with one Rotten Tomatoes critic calling it “the best live-action project Marvel Studios has made so far.”
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Will End With Season 3
Charlie Cox’s return as Matt Murdock will get one final chapter.
The decision to end the show also comes as the series undergoes a change behind the scenes. Dario Scardapane, who served as showrunner for the second season, is no longer working on the series after his contract expired and was not renewed.
Marvel has not publicly commented on the decision. The Hollywood Reporter notes that postproduction on season 3 is already in its final stages, although it remains unclear who will oversee the remainder of that work following Scardapane’s departure.
The final season is expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2027.
Critics Were High on the Marvel Series
The decision to end the series comes despite a strong critical response to its first two seasons.
Season 1 currently holds an 87% Tomatometer score from 224 critics on Rotten Tomatoes, while the second season sits at 86% from 134 reviews.
One of the strongest reviews came from Alexander Zalben of Comic Book Club. His Rotten Tomatoes review of season 1 called Daredevil: Born Again “the best live-action project Marvel Studios has made so far.”
Before Born Again, Cox starred in three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil, which ran from 2015 to 2018. The Disney+ series brought Cox back as the Man Without Fear while continuing the story of his alter ego, Matt Murdock.
Other critics were similarly enthusiastic. Rotten Tomatoes’ season 2 roundup featured reviews calling the season “the pinnacle of superhero storytelling” and one of Marvel’s greatest achievements on screen.
Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio Will Get One More Season
Cox isn’t the only familiar face returning for the final chapter.
Vincent D’Onofrio plays Wilson Fisk, the crime boss who has become one of Daredevil’s most formidable enemies. The character’s evolution into the mayor of New York has been a major part of Born Again, putting Fisk and Murdock on an increasingly direct collision course.
The second season also brought back Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher, while Krysten Ritter returned as Jessica Jones.
