As revealed during San Diego Comic-Con last July, DC is doing something special for Batman Day with Batman of Two Worlds #1, a new one-shot available in comic shops Saturday, September 19th that will parallel stories starring both the mainline Caped Crusader and his Absolute counterpart. Today the publisher unveiled more details for the Batman Day 2026 celebration festivities.
At this point, nothing more needs to be said about the gargantuan success of DC’s Absolute Universe. Likewise, the relaunch of the main Batman ongoing series was a major highlight for DC last year. So this special one-shot was a no-brainer. Official description below:
Two worlds. One legendary hero. Batman of Two Worlds features an all-new Batman story by writer Matt Fraction and artist Javi Fernández, with colors by Tomeu Morey and letters byClayton Cowles, alongside an all-new Absolute Batman story by writer Scott Snyder and artistNick Derington, with colors byFrank Martin and letters by Tom Napolitano, celebrating the versatility of the World’s Greatest Detective. From the streets of Gotham City to the bold new landscape of the Absolute Universe, each story offers a unique perspective on Batman’s unwavering pursuit of justice. DC’s Batman of Two Worlds cover is by Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta, and Frank Martin.
No surprise, the publisher is keeping things close to the vest. But the creators offered the following to tease fans:
“Without giving too much away,” said Scott Snyder, “both stories are about theft, what theft means in one world versus the other, and what Batman’s form of justice looks like in each. That was the guiding principle that gave us the opportunity to tell two stories that celebrate each interpretation.”
“At the heart of it, it’s really simple,” said Matt Fraction. “One problem, two solutions. Each version of Batman has his own way of working and his own solution to that problem. The fun was putting them side by side so you can see the similarities, the differences, and the unique flavor and texture of each world.”
As per previous years, paper masks featuring Batman, Absolute Batman, Hush Batman, and Dark Knight Returns Batman. All four masks are by Ryan Sook, drawn in the styles of Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta, Jim Lee, and Frank Miller respectively will be available at participating local comic shops. Batman Day 2026 activities vary by retailer, so ask your local comics shop about masks, promotions, costumes, and other ways to celebrate.
Batman Day 2026 will also offer five major hardcover releases, available at a participating comic book shop near you:
