Baywatchalum David Charvet shared a rare comment about his ex-wife Brooke Burke.
The 54-year-old opened up about why he quit acting, noting that Burke was a catalyst in his decision. After starring on hit shows like Baywatchand Melrose Place in the 1990s, Charvet gradually took a step back, last appearing in a scripted project during the 2013 filmPrisoners of the Sun.
“I promised Brooke at the time that I would be a very present father,” he said on Tuesday’s episode of the Sibling Revelry podcast. “I didn’t have that. I had a great stepdad that was always around. My real father and I didn’t have that kind of relationship.”
As a result, Charvet vowed to do better for his two kids with Burke, daughter Heaven Rain, 19, and son Shaya Braven, 18. He wanted to be more present and show up in the ways that his father had not.
“I wanted to be the first person that they saw every morning,” he shared. “I wanted to be the last person that they heard at night before they went to bed. I wanted to be at every single event because I remember sometimes being in a situation where I was at my own events and, you know, I would look around and there wasn’t certain people there, which was tough.”
Charvet, who recently returned to screens on <a href="https://ew.com/special-forces-world-s-toughest-test-8776741″ rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, said that the legacy he wants to leave in life isn’t with his work. Instead, he wants his family to be a reflection of what he’s done.
“It’s the most beautiful reward to be able to sit today and to see your kids be good human beings,” he continued.

In addition to his acting career, Charvet let go of his musical pursuits. He noted that touring had taken him away from his family for too long. While he has no regrets, he admitted that he felt “slight depressions” with the transition away from Hollywood.
“One thing that was quite interesting is, you know, you’re doing a profession for 20 years, you’re known for all the things you’ve done,” he said. “And all of a sudden it’s just over and your identity completely changes.”
Charvet and Burke shared custody of their two kids following their divorce, which was finalized in March 2020. The former couple first got together in 2006 and married in August 2011.

Since quitting acting, Charvet has largely been focused on his construction company Jones Builders Group, which primarily builds luxury developments in Los Angeles. As for whether he would return to acting for the new Baywatch revival, Charvet told Sibling Revelry that it has to be “meaningful” for him to consider it.
“I’m so blessed right now like with everything in life that I don’t need to chase that stuff anymore,” he said.
