Cyprus Comic Con, the annual comic books, video games, cosplay, and anime convention held in Nicosia, Cyprus, has launched this playful pixel art trailer for its 2026 event, intricately directed by Marc Srour through ABL Films.  

The retro, single-shot film follows the convention’s mascot, Buggy Boop Boop, through the eleven hand-drawn zones as the sky darkens, all paired with characterful music by Cypriot chiptune artist Night Vendor. 

The entire trailer is made from pixel art, produced natively at 384 x 216 in a 66-colour palette and held to the constraints of the 16-bit arcade era throughout: fifteen colours per character, fifteen per 16 x 16 background tile.  

Over a tight two-week turnaround, ABL also built a custom lighting model to maintain realism, as well as writing their own software, named Chartool, with 11,099 lines of code.
