The Top Anime From The Summer 2026 Season You Should Watch

The Summer 2026 Anime Season has been going strong for a few weeks now, with some absolute banger series dropping every week. There have been so many good shows that I’ve had trouble keeping track of them all, let alone pick out my favourites. But even though it’s taken me over half the season, I’ve finally landed on five anime from this Summer Season that are well worth your time.

BLACK TORCH was a manga that was released back in 2016… and cancelled in 2018. The series only ran for five volumes before getting the axe, so why is it getting an anime almost a decade later, and how is it actually pretty good? BLACK TORCH, animated by 100studio, is about Jiro Azuma, a teenager trained in the art of the ninja and who has the unique ability to talk to animals. Unfortunately, this means he can also talk to mononoke, which are evil spirits. When he encounters a cat named Rago, who is also a mononoke, Jiro is quickly drawn into a war with these evil spirits and joins the Bureau of Espionage to take them down. This does sound like a lot of other anime, but after a few episodes, this series began to hit its stride. The great animation and enjoyable characters make this something I’d recommend you check out every Saturday.

I fucking love Link Click. The time-travelling show by bilibili and BeDream has been one of my favourite series in recent years. I just love the new, fun take on time travel that involves using pictures to time travel. I also adore the relationship between Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang as they use their abilities to help people and uncover conspiracies. After the Bridon Arc prequel a couple of years ago, I’m more than ready to jump right back into the mysteries that were left unsolved at the end of Season 2. I’m not going to say any more because this is a show you need to go into blind, so get caught up on Link Click right now and watch every episode of Season 3 when it airs every Friday.

Solo Leveling took the anime world by storm when it was released, resulting in multiple awards. Because of the massive success, it was only natural that more Korean web novels would be getting the anime treatment, and that’s where Tomb Raider King comes in. Animated by STUDIOEEK, you would be forgiven for just thinking that this is a Solo Leveling clone, seeing as the main character, Goriki Ryoga, looks very similar to Sung Jin Woo, but the similarities end at the looks. Ryoga is way more of a prick, which you need to be in this world.

When mysterious tombs appear everywhere, containing divine relics that grant enormous power, people go crazy trying to get as much power as they can. Ryoga is one of those people, but he’s betrayed and left for dead; his story doesn’t end like that, as he is given a second chance. Now alive again and having travelled back in time before the relics and tombs became common knowledge, Ryoga sets out to get all the power before anyone else. This series is off to a promising start, and while I don’t think it’ll surpass Solo Leveling, it’s still a great time in its own right. Also, the opening is sung by the Korean band QWER, who are a fun time, and you should listen to it before watching every new episode on Wednesdays.

Saga of Tanya the EvilSeason 2

Saga of Tanya the Evil was a neat twist on the isekai genre when it came out back in 2017. The story of a man reincarnated as a young girl named Tanya, living in the Empire (similar to Germany during WW1), where magic has been integrated into the military, was a nice change from the typical fantasy isekai. But what also made it unique was how much of a diabolical piece of shit Tanya is. She is a ruthless commander in the Empire who doesn’t hesitate to commit casual war crimes. She does this in spite of God, also known as Being X, who is the reason Tanya is in this world: a punishment because she had no faith in her first life. The dynamic between Being X and Tanya is very enjoyable to watch, and that is the same in Season 2 (which has only taken nearly a decade). The animation by NUT is still just as good as it was in Season 1, and you should absolutely tune in every Wednesday.

I have a soft spot for slice-of-life anime that is just a chill time with maybe a lil bit of romance thrown in, and that’s exactly what Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You is. Animated by Asahi Production, the story follows Sasaki, an overworked salaryman who is living life on autopilot, with the only thing keeping him going being his cigarettes. Well, that and the smile of Yamada, a clerk at his favourite supermarket. These two things are the highlight of his day, but when he works late one day, he is too late to see Yamada at the supermarket, and he can’t find anywhere to smoke. He feels dejected, as if his day couldn’t get any worse, but then a young woman with piercings offers him a place to smoke to try to cheer him up. This anime is the chill watch I need from time to time, and I’ve enjoyed tuning in every Thursday to catch the latest episode (and you should as well).
