Crunchyroll has added FLCL to its anime catalogue. The series is available with Japanese audio and English subtitles, giving viewers in India access to the original six-episode anime.
Rather than a conventional long-running series, the original FLCL tells its story across six episodes. It follows Naota Nandaba, a 12-year-old boy living an ordinary life in the Japanese suburb of Mabase until Haruko Haruhara suddenly enters his life. Her arrival leads to a series of bizarre events involving aliens, giant machines and supernatural forces.
FLCL is a science-fiction comedy and coming-of-age story originally released as a six-episode OVA between 2000 and 2001. Kazuya Tsurumaki directed the series, which was produced by a committee involving Gainax, Production I.G and Starchild Records.
The franchise later continued with FLCL Progressive and FLCL Alternative in 2018, followed by FLCL: Grunge and FLCL: Shoegaze in 2023. The original series centres on Naota as Haruko disrupts his life while pursuing her own mysterious objectives.
