Beyond the Gates is bringing another married couple into Fairmont Crest, but this time, the romance isn’t just for television. Community star Yvette Nicole Brown and her real-life husband, Anthony Davis, are joining the CBS daytime soap as husband and wife, adding two new faces to the Johnson family just as another wedding approaches. The couple debuts on Friday, November 13.
According to Soap Opera News, Brown will play Temeka, a cousin of Shanice Johnson (Ernestine Johnson), while Davis will portray Temeka’s husband, Tony. Their arrival comes as Shanice prepares to marry Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith D. Robinson), adding more relatives to an already complicated family situation. Whether Temeka and Tony are arriving specifically for the wedding remains under wraps, as does how long they’ll stay.
But Brown and Davis have a love story of their own, and it took more than two decades to reach the altar.
The couple first met in a church acting class in their twenties, then lost touch for more than 25 years. After reconnecting, they eventually tied the knot in December 2024. Now, nearly two years into their marriage, they’re taking their relationship to scripted television, playing a couple whose history predates their arrival in Fairmont Crest.
Brown is best known for playing Shirley Bennett on the NBC sitcom Community, but her television career extends well beyond Greendale Community College. She earned a 2021 Emmy nomination for A Black Lady Sketch Show and has also worked in the daytime soap world.
She previously portrayed reporter Lois Thompson on The Young and the Restless in 2016 and 2017 and appeared as a nurse on General Hospital.
Davis, an actor and ordained pastor, has appeared in The Family Business and The Upshaws.
Their casting also continues Beyond the Gates’ growing roster of recognizable guest stars.
Former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss recently joined the series as Kalista Kilroy, while Emmy-winning entertainer Tabitha Brown appeared as Tia Allen.
The CBS soap has also welcomed several personalities from The Real Housewives of Potomac, including Karen Huger, Gizelle Bryant, and Wendy Osefo.
And Fairmont Crest has plenty of history for newcomers to navigate.
Created by Michele Val Jean, Beyond the Gatesdebuted in February 2025, becoming the first new American network daytime soap in more than 25 years. The series centers on the wealthy Dupree family, whom CBS describes as “the very definition of Black royalty,” and the residents of an affluent Maryland neighborhood outside Washington, D.C.
The drama has also found another home beyond CBS and Paramount+. Pluto TV launched a dedicated, free Beyond the Gates channel in August 2025, initially featuring more than 90 episodes, with additional installments arriving eight days after their CBS broadcasts.
