Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Cancel.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a fan of Super powered individuals all my life. Whether that was reading about Superman in comics, watching Xmen on Saturday mornings cartoon runs, collecting cards of my favorite Dragon Ball characters or ripping packs of Pokemon with my friends. Over time id take my comics and cards and put them in shoeboxes under my bed or in binders above my closet for safe keeping. Fast forward 25 years, im living on my own and starting my own family, when I get a call from my parents that they’ve sold their house and are retiring to Florida, I had approximately 48hrs to come pick up an old box of junk from their attic or else it goes in the trash, so I do. To my amazement it was prestine copies of all my childhood comics and cards. I was blown away at the condition and quality of this long forgotten treasure trove and decided I should go through and catalog everything to potentially see what I can do with it all. Over time, I slowly started posting items on Facebook marketplace and things began to sell quicker and for higher than I ever imagined, i was blown away. Once I ran out of inventory I started scouring local places for more cards and comic books to sell.. I started doing more research into determining values and condition quality of more vintage items.. and the biggest thing I did was create an identity for the business and an Instagram page to find more like minded collectors while showing off all the things I loved about the hobby. I slowly became an online influencer in the Collecting space and made friends while building community with those same people, using networking to continue to grow. We started a group called The Texas Collector Crew where we travel all around the State of Texas doing Comic Conventions and Card Shows together, while donating a portion of our sales to some of our favorite charities. I attribute alot of my success in this space to the friends ive made along the way and the family who’s supported me in business. My ultimate goal is to continue to grow my business but also the hobby of collecting while also supporting the next generation of collectors, TCG Players, Vendors and Influencers.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest thing for me was not knowing what each paycheck was gonna look like. The lack of stability and consistent pay was scary in the beginning but I always continued to have faith that I could overcome any obstacle put in front of me. My business started a bit before covid hit, so there was a ton of uncertainty early on but eventually, people being home bored with income to spare, actually helped me in the long run, so I worried for nothing!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in the buying, selling and trading of modern and vintage collectibles. Including comics books, Mangas, sports cards, TCGs, Action figures, Pops and other collectibles. We buy and sell both raw and graded items. The biggest thing that sets us apart is that for collectors, we only offer the highest quality of items. All Heaters, No Beaters.. as we say.. and for Players of the trading card games, we’re also great teachers so anyone interested in learning how to play trading card games like One Piece, we’re your guys!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family and faith make me happy. My 4 daughters Jai’lyn, Calia, Aleida and Jaz’lyn who come vend with me sometimes, my wife Corri who supports me and allows me a couple weekends out of the month to travel and spend time with a rowdy group of guys. My cousin Josh who stop by to support every show and share every reel!

Collecting nostalgia, playing cards games and winning tournaments is what brings me the most joy but Meeting new people and making new friends is another huge highlight!
