Biographic by Steve McGarry – Sept. 13, 2026

GoComics had the black line issue solved for quite awhile until recently. Today Biographic lost it, and since it is only available as part of Andrews McMeel Syndicate’s newspaper e-portal I don’t know if it will ever be fixed as they did to The Born Loser after Labor Day weekend.

The unsyndicated Looks Good On Paper comic of Sept. 11, 2026 remains incomplete (though with that one if you left click on the image it opens in a new page with a corrected version.

Speaking of 9-11 there were a few, less than a dozen, syndicated comics paying tribute to the 25th anniversary (fewer than I would have guessed). Most were respectful though disappointingly Mallard Fillmore went political. But Lola was puzzling.

Lola by Todd Clark – Sept. 11, 2026

I honestly don’t know if it was some kind of memorial to the famous quote of that day or just a coincidence that “Let’s Roll” was used. It seemed to me to be inappropriate but maybe I’m missing something.

    inspirations for Bill Watterson

It is still in my queue so I guess I never passed on “These Are the Three Comic Strips That Most Inspired ‘Calvin and Hobbes’” a GoComics post by Juliana Roth about who stimulated Bill Watterson’s creativity.

    Caldwell Zoo ocelot cubs

The Tyler, Texas Caldwell Zoo held a contest to name a new pair of ocelot cubs andCalvin and Hobbes won.

You Can’t Tell the Players Without a Scorecard

Flash Gordon by Dan Schkade – Sept. 13, 2026

I like the trading card-like sequence in today’s Flash Gordon of highlighting the actors in coming adventure. The characters will be identified in the first half of tomorrow’s comic strip too. I like the idea.

Nancy and Sluggo comic book title, 1950s

Something I don’t remembering happening in my youth but happens on occasion is cartoonists using their comic strip to promote appearances, like Caroline Cash did Saturday.

Nancy by Caroline Cash -Sept. 12, 2026

I have no objections to the practice as long as it remains occasional. I do like Cash’s frequent appearances in the comic strip, something I also enjoy with Chip Dunham‘s habit in Overboard.

What I don’t like are those convention exclusives like the small press Caroline Cash Nancy comic book.

Another small press comic book that we can get is Public Domain Funnies Comics which features new stories/adaptations of public domain characters Betty Boop, Mickey Mouse, andPopeye.

    Special Appearances

Non Sequitur by Wiley – Sept. 13, 2026

Danae returns! The first appearance since…hmmm…June 20th (June 21 being a rerun).

first Boob McNutt by Rube Goldberg – June 9, 1918

Rabbits Against Magic by Jonathan Lemon – Sept. 13, 2026

I don’t know the last time Boob McNutt appeared in a comic strip, probably in Sam’s Strip or during a Walt Wallet visit to the Old Comics Home in Gasoline Alley, but he gets mentioned today in Rabbits Against Magic. Not only mentioned but emulated – noticed the similar suicide attempts in the first and last panels of both strips.
