Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayaganhas run into an unexpected hurdle in Chennai after several theatres reportedly stopped allowing children to attend screenings because of the film’s A certification.

The decision has left many families disappointed, especially those who had booked tickets in advance hoping to watch Vijay’s final film on the big screen together. Reports from several cinema halls in Chennai suggest that children were denied entry despite arriving with parents, leading to confusion and heated exchanges at some venues.

Vijay’s filn Jana Nayagan halted in Chennai

Theatres clarified that the restrictions are in line with the Central Board of Film Certification(CBFC) guidelines. Since Jana Nayagan has received an A certificate, only viewers aged 18 years and above are permitted to watch the film in theatres. Theatre managements stated that they had no choice but to enforce the rule to comply with certification norms.

Videos and posts showing upset parents and children outside cinema halls quickly surfaced on social media, with many expressing disappointment that they were unable to watch Vijay’s final outing together. Some fans questioned why bookings for families had not been flagged earlier, while others urged authorities and exhibitors to provide clearer communication before ticket sales.

Despite the controversy, the film has continued to enjoy a massive response at the box office. The political action drama has witnessed packed shows across several cities, with advance bookings and opening-day collections reflecting the immense anticipation surrounding Vijay’s final appearance on the silver screen before dedicating himself fully to politics.

    All about Jana Nayagan

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay in the lead alongside Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj and Priyamani. The film has been one of the most talked-about Tamil releases of the year, not only because of its star-studded cast but also because it marks the end of Vijay’s acting career.

While fans continue to celebrate the film’s theatrical run, the age restriction has become an unexpected talking point. Theatre owners have reiterated that the rule is mandatory for all A-rated films and applies regardless of whether children are accompanied by parents. With audiences continuing to flock to cinemas, exhibitors are urging moviegoers to verify certification details before booking tickets to avoid inconvenience.
