Caring for a young child can bring plenty of big emotions, for children and caregivers alike. Michigan State University Extension is offering a free, four-week online series designed to help caregivers better understand their young child’s social and emotional development while building practical skills for navigating challenging behaviors.
Building Early Emotional Skills (BEES) is for primary caregivers of children ages birth to 3. The series explores how young children develop social-emotional skills and provides caregivers with tools to manage the stresses of caregiving while helping children build a strong emotional foundation.
Throughout the four-week series, participants will learn about:
- Understanding their child’s temperament and stress
- Recognizing personal triggers and strategies for managing them
- Reflecting on feelings and using emotion coaching
- Reducing biting, conflict and frustration
- Responding to and managing tantrums
- Supporting healthy social and emotional development
- Building a strong foundation for their child’s future
Whether you’re navigating tantrums, biting, frustration or the challenges sometimes associated with the “terrible twos,” BEES offers strategies to help caregivers better understand what is happening beneath the behavior and respond in ways that support their child’s development.
