Newcastle United have made plans to jet Bruno Guimaraes out to La Manga on Sunday – with the skipper set to hold talks with new manager Matthias Jaissle on his future.
Whether that will be enough to fend off uncertainty over his future with Arsenal remains to be seen, but Bruno will NOT be with his team-mates for the flight going over to Spain today.
Bruno was offered two options: either to hook up today and fly with the team or jet over to Spain from South America this weekend.
The player is currently coming to the end of a post-World Cup training and fitness programme and Toon chiefs are satisfied with his levels after talks with fitness coaches.
Newcastle and Bruno agreed that a flight from Brazil to London, then Newcastle, then on to La Manga wasn’t convenient compared to a direct flight from South America to Spain.
And there is still an element of suspicion and doubt from some quarters with oneeturn. That fear has been put to Bruno’s representatives who have maintained a silence throughout the process when asked by Chronicle Live
But Newcastlee idea is that he starts work for the summer with Newcastle now in place. The delay is said to be part of his post-World Cup fitness programme and Chronicle Live understands that it is consistent with his extended holiday after the tournament in the States
Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson will travel to La Manga with the team ahead of Matthias Jaissle’s arrival this weekend.
High-level talks took place yesterday after Eddie Howe’s exit was confirmed, and Jaissle – who will bring in his own backroom team – will cost United £8m in compensation after striking an agreement with Al-Ahli.
Toon players were left looking for answers yesterday as some learned through the media that Howe was going. But they will get more clarity at lunchtime today and see which staff will be taking the team for the first part of their trip to La Manga.
Wilson will be there to support and head of performance James Bunce was also expected to stay on. But the hope is that Jaissle will be cleared soon to take the team and a new chapter can officially begin.
Wilson is believed to have been in Holland tying up the deal for Jaissle and a four-year contract is on the table.
CEO David Hopkinson spent yesterday on the ground on Tyneside on another day that rocked the football club as Howe’s term after five years came to an abrupt end.
The flight back from Bristol City after the 4-1 defeat in the south west was believed to have been a sombre affair, with some insiders suggesting they knew something was “wrong” and Howe’s backroom staff told soon after landing. But the players will be brought up to speed and there is excitement at the club thatJaissle can bring a brand of exciting football to Newcastle and build on Eddie Howe’s success story.
