Brick Boy creators are back for a working LEGO PlayStation

Plug and play is coming to the LEGO PlayStation

The fans behind the kit for the working LEGO Game Boy are coming back to give the upcoming LEGO PlayStation the same treatment.

The team at Substance Labs launched a Kickstarter campaign last year to fund multiple tiers of kits to turn 72046 Game Boy into a working handheld console. This involved cramming the necessary technology inside the LEGO set seamlessly.

That campaign is still available to fund, and its success has inspired the team to give the concept another go, this time with 72306 PlayStation.

The LEGO console set launches next month, and the fans at Substance Labs are aiming to turn it into a working console just as they did with the Game Boy. The plug-and-play add-on has been previewed at Retro Dodo, and it looks to be a much easier assembly process than the Brick Boy.

The prototype appears to pack all of the components into a single block, with sections at the side to run in the LEGO grooves featured for the dioramas in 72306 PlayStation. It would likely take the place of one of those dioramas, which would then be displayed to the side. This block includes a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W and HDMI output.

The presence of those dioramas and the size of the LEGO PlayStation leave plenty of room inside the recreation. This will likely make the task of converting the set into a working console far easier than it was with the Game Boy.

A release date for BrickStation’s campaign has not yet been confirmed, but the websiteis live and will be updated when there are announcements to be made. 72306 PlayStation will launch on October 1 for £139.99 / $179.99 / €159.99. You can take a closer look at the upcoming set by clicking here.
