    Borderlands

    Gearbox Entertainment

“Borderlands” is expected to get a remake, and a leaker has now claimed that PlayStation is working already working on it with a new developer to offer a new exclusive game to the PS5 and potentially the PS6

However, the report went on to also claim that the game will not be what players expect from a remake of the original game, especially as it is said to feature several major changes

‘Borderlands’ Is Getting a Remake From PlayStation

A new report from ComicBook Gaming claims that PlayStation is developing a “Borderlands” remake, but not through Gearbox, the studio behind the original franchise. Instead, PlayStation studio Bungie is reportedly attached to the project, with the remake said to take a very different direction from the games fans already know

The claim comes from content creator Trance, who covers the “Destiny” community. According to the report, Gearbox and PlayStation are in early talks for Bungie, the studio behind “Halo,” “Destiny,” and this year’s “Marathon,” to remake the original “Borderlands.”

In exchange for developing an IP it does not own, PlayStation would reportedly secure the project as a PS5 and PS6 exclusive

A similar remake of “Borderlands 2” is also said to be under discussion, with PlayStation exclusivity attached to that project as well. Gearbox remains owned by Take-Two Interactive, which holds the “Borderlands” IP, meaning the publisher would be involved in any deal even if Bungie leads development

‘Borderlands’ Remake Is Not What You Expect

Rather than a faithful, one-to-one remake, the report claims Bungie’s version would be reimagined as a live servicegame in the style of “Destiny 2.”

That would mark a significant shift from the original “Borderlands,” trading its self-contained campaign structure for ongoing seasonal content and ongoing support

The remake is also said to include semi-customizable characters instead of the original’s set roster of Vault Hunters, another departure from how the franchise has traditionally handled its playable cast

Nothing about the report has been confirmed by PlayStation, Gearbox, or Take-Two Interactive, and theso the information should be treated as unverified for now

Similar to ‘Borderlands 4’ Gameplay, Features

The reported remake is said to lean on an open world structure similar to “Borderlands 4,” which released last year to generally positive reception

That game moved the series away from its previous segmented level design, introducing a fully connected open world set on the moon of Kairos, along with new traversal options like double jumps and grappling hooks

“Borderlands 4” was widely seen as a course correction after the divisive “Borderlands 3,” with reviewers praising its gunplay, expanded Vault Hunter builds, and more grounded tone, even as some criticized technical performance and occasional pacing issues in its open world design

If the reported Bungie project follows a similar structural approach while shifting toward a live service model, it would represent a considerable change in direction for how “Borderlands” games have traditionally been built and released
