A new Bloomberg report states that PlayStation dropped Kojima Productions’ PHYSINT due to budget concerns and development delays.

All About the Benjamins
A new report today from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg has shed light on why PlayStation and Sony Interactive Entertainment have dropped Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT.
There are a multitude of issues explained in the article:
- Poor sales of Death Stranding 1 & 2
- The lack of exclusivity to the PS5 platform for PHYSINT (PC)
- Missed Deadlines
- “On track to be well over budget”
Another point made is that most of those with whom Mr. Kojima has a relationship have since departed PlayStation and SIE. Xbox, which is currently working with Kojima on the game OD, stepped in to take over publishing on PHYSINT. The deal sees the two parties collaborating on games, film, and television projects.
The report indicates that Xbox plans to publish PHYSINT on both console and PC at launch. A move that PlayStation is not interested in, since, as they would no longer publish single-player games outside of PS5
The story finishes off with a quote from an Xbox representative on the deal:
“Betting on Kojima-san is an easy call,” said an Xbox spokesperson. “We believe in his team’s ability to build AAA games with groundbreaking, new IP and we believe in OD, Physint, and our growing partnership.”
