A local media collective focused on Black nerd, or Blerd, culture has been green lit for a long-awaited feature film on geek culture.

Geekset, a group of Milwaukee-based entertainers, has officially partnered with entertainment studio Martian Blueberry to bring “The Black Geek Documentary” to life.

The partnership was announced during Martian Blueberry’s panel at Dream Con 2026, marking a major milestone for a project first revealed in Forbes and originally teased to fans during Dream Con 2023

For years, Geekset — founded by Young Deuces, Bacardi Sensei, Didge Dee, King, and Trippie — has celebrated Black fandom through podcasts, live events, convention programming, and original content that explores the intersections of anime, comics, gaming, film, cosplay, and pop culture. “The Black Geek Documentary” expands that mission by telling the story of the people, communities, and creators who helped shape what has become a global movement

Described as a love letter to Blerd culture, the documentary will explore the origins of Black geek culture, celebrate its present-day impact, and examine the limitless possibilities for its future

“We really wanted to show the world the culture we love so much, so that’s why this is our love letter to the culture,” Geekset said in a statement. “We want to protect it and preserve it while also helping push it forward to the unlimited heights it can reach.”

Joining the project is Martian Blueberry, the independent studio founded by Carl Jones (“The Boondocks”, “Black Dynamite”) and Love Jones. Since its launch, Martian Blueberry has quickly emerged as one of animation’s most exciting new studios, with an expanding slate that includes Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hotties,” the XXXTENTACION-inspired animated feature “Make Out Hill,” the anime thriller “Intellectual Power,” and the original anime-inspired series “Junichiro Jackson.”

Carl Jones emphasized why Geekset was the right partner to tell this story

“These brothers (have) been documenting this culture for a long time and they’re the only people who can tell this story in the best way,” he said

Love Jones echoed that excitement about the collaboration and its broader cultural impact

“Geekset & Martian Blueberry, that’s a powerful combination and I can’t wait to show the world that Blerds exist, and that Black Nerds Matter,” she said

Together, Geekset and Martian Blueberry aim to create the definitive documentary on Black geek culture—one that honors the pioneers who built the community, celebrates the creators carrying it forward today, and preserves its legacy for generations to come

Additional production updates, featured participants, and release information for “The Black Geek Documentary” will be announced at a later date
