Construction has officially begun on the first Atari Hotel in Phoenix’s Roosevelt Row, nearly six years after the project was announced. The groundbreaking marks the start of a unique gaming-themed property that is expected to open in late 2028 or early 2029. The hotel will feature 91 high-tech guest rooms, creator studios, and an esports and concert venue with a capacity of over 2,000 people
The project, developed by Intersection Development, aims to blend Atari’s gaming nostalgia with modern technology and entertainment. It will include a sportsbook, immersive bars, restaurants, and retail shops. The property is being designed by räkkhaus, an architecture studio known for innovative and sustainable spaces that connect deeply with local culture and community.
The hotel is being built on a 1.06-acre parcel that previously housed a landmark building known as the KOY Building, which was home to several iconic radio stations in Phoenix. The building’s demolition is part of the first phase of construction, as reported by the Phoenix New Times.
The Atari Hotel is a $124 million project that seeks to create a one-of-a-kind destination for gaming fans, tourists, and Phoenix residents. “We’re pressing ‘start’ on Atari Hotels’ Phoenix property, bringing our vision for the first-of-its-kind venue closer to reality,” said Jordan Taylor, a partner at Intersection Development
The project is backed by celebrity investors, including Henry Cejudo and Adapt. The developers are also conducting a public investment campaign to raise $35 to $40 million for the hotel’s construction. The Atari Hotel promises to offer fully immersive experiences for every age and gaming ability, including the latest in virtual and augmented reality.
