Anime fans, cosplayers, and artists are gathering in South Portland this weekend for AniMaine 2026, a three-day celebration of animation, gaming, and Japanese pop culture.
The convention kicked off Friday at the Best Western Merry Manor on Main Street and runs through Sunday.
This year’s event has a Western theme, bringing a cowboy-inspired twist to the annual celebration.
According to organizers, the weekend’s programming includes fan-led panels, video games, tabletop gaming, and an artist marketplace featuring original creations and merchandise.
The convention also features its annual masquerade competition, where cosplayers can showcase their costumes and performances for a chance to win a best-in-show award.
AniMaine is organized by an independent nonprofit dedicated to supporting artists and celebrating animation.
Sigle-day admission costs $50 on Saturday and $25 on Sunday, according to the convention’s website. Children 12 and younger can attend for free with an accompanying adult.
