The five-day “27th Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong” (ACGHK 2026) has returned with its largest edition to date, featuring more than 200 exhibitors, an expanded exhibition space and international guests, while local visitors praised the convention’s size, exclusive merchandise and cosplay community.
Running from Friday until tomorrow night at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, this year’s event expanded into the centre’s Hall5 for the first time, increasing its exhibition area by 10 percent to 38,417 square metres and raising its maximum capacity to 38,000 visitors, according to a statement by the organisers.
The convention features 201 exhibitors and 689 participants, including art toy designers, comic artists and content creators, the statement said. Among this year’s highlights are the debut Dig Dig Island toy collectors’ fair and ComixPop, a new zone dedicated to nearly 40 Hong Kong comic artists.
Other attractions include a 4.5-metre Spider-Man display at the Hot Toys booth, Sanrio’s Egyptian-themed Hello Kitty installation, Pokémon Trading Card Game activities, and appearances by Japanese voice actors.
Speaking with the Postat the venue yesterday, Marco, 24, a student from Hong Kong University (HKU), said that the expanded venue significantly improved the experience. “It’s massive! Expanding into Hall 5 actually made a huge difference. It feels like the event is truly back to its peak pre-pandemic energy, but amplified”. Marco also encouraged newcomers to enjoy cosplay without worrying about perfection. “Don’t stress too much about your first build, just wear something you can move and smile in”, he said
Another Hong Kong student, Chica, 21, said that the local cosplay community has evolved considerably in recent years. “The craftsmanship has skyrocketed because everyone has access to better tutorials, 3D printing, and overseas materials now”, Chica said, adding that ACG stands out because of its large-scale commercial presence and energetic atmosphere.
Meanwhile, people from Macau also travelled to Hong Kong specifically for the event. Gao, 23, a local student from the public Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), attended ACGHK for the first time after following the convention online for years. “It’s on a completely different planet scale-wise. The number of halls, the roaring crowds, the international exclusive merch, and the sheer volume of professional-grade cosplayers here are overwhelming in the best way possible”, Gao said.
Returning visitor surnamed Wong, 26, a part-time worker, said he travelled mainly for gaming merchandise and collectibles unavailable in Macau. “I’d love to see larger-scale conventions hosted in Macau and have a dedicated annual convention matching the commercial density of ACGHK and Comic Con [Hong Kong Comic Con] would give local fans and creators a huge regional platform”, he said.
Moreover, 17-year-old high school student Hiro said that attending the convention for the first time marked a personal milestone. “I decided to step out of my comfort zone for this one convention here in Hong Kong”, she said. When comparing the event with Macau’s anime gatherings, Hiro said Hong Kong offers a wider range of fandoms, particularly Western franchises. “Hong Kong has more diversity in its interest in fandoms, which is why I prefer coming to Hong Kong [for other conventions], because most of my interests are based on Western media”, she noted.
The convention concludes tomorrow, with organisers continuing to host cosplay activities, artist meet-and-greets, toy exhibitions and stage events as thousands of anime, comic and gaming fans from Hong Kong, Macau, the Chinese mainland and beyond gather for one of Asia’s largest pop culture events.
The fair closes its doors at 8:00p.m. tomorrow.
