Amanda Seyfried is having a pretty “interesting” weekend now that Elizabeth Holmes is back in the news.
Over the weekend, the actress attended the Academy Museum’s sixth-annual gala, just days after the wide release of Nathan Fielder’s documentary,You Can See Everything, which traces Holmes’ final days with her family prior to her 2023 incarceration.
Seyfried, who portrayed the Theranos founder in the Hulu limited series The Dropout, did her best to avoid talking about the doc during chats with multiple reporters. The result was a series of interactions that Seyfried herself agrees were pretty strange.
“It’s interesting, yeah, it’s interesting,” Seyfried told The Hollywood Reporter in one clip, when asked if she’s having trouble giving interviews at the moment. “But, for a good reason. I don’t know, I think everything that’s happening is meant to happen [and] everything, everyone that’s in your life is meant to be in your life.”

She continued, “That’s just, kind of— and I’m here tonight. I’m meant to be here, and I get to go home tomorrow and I’m meant to be home and so on and so forth.”
When asked if her “interesting” life has made regular conversations difficult, she noted, “Only of late.”
Seyfried was then asked what she would prefer to be asked about since there are “things [she] can’t talk about,” to which the actress replied, “I like to talk about the emus. I like to talk about Halloween. And you can engage with me if you want to talk about all things having to do with apple pie and olives and really good hard ciders.”
Needless to say, fans were pretty confused after glimpsing the clip on social media. And Seyfried understands why.
“What AM I even saying,” she commented beneath Instagram footage of the interview.
In a separate encounter that same night, Seyfried cautiously approached a Variety reporter with the warning, “Don’t ask me anything! Do not ask me anything.”
The reporter cheekily replied, “About what?”
“I got nothing to say,” added Seyfried. When asked what brought her out for the event, she replied simply, “Diamonds.”

“Tell me about these diamonds,” the interviewer said. “Because I can see everything.”
The cheeky reference to Fielder’s doc earned a smile from Seyfried, though the actress continued dodging direct references to Holmes. “I don’t know what you mean,” she said.
The reporter then changed tactics, asking whether Seyfried expects The Dropout to return for a second season. She laughed nervously, answering, “I don’t think so. But life is long.”
As for whether she’s kept up with Holmes’ story, Seyfried vaguely replied, “On and off.”

All of the awkwardness is Seyfried attempting to hide the fact that — SPOILER ALERT — she actually has a significant role to play in You Can See Everything. Halfway through the three-hour documentary, co-directed by Fielder and Lance Oppenheim (Primetime), Seyfried joins the project toportray Holmes in reenactments for Fielder’s film.

Seyfried first shows up when Holmes watches The Dropout with Fielder and her partner, Billy Evans. Later, after the disgraced entrepreneur begins her 11-year prison sentence, Fielders calls upon Seyfried to act as a stand-in for Holmes. Outside of the reenactments Seyfried becomes somewhat of a major character in the story, spending time with Evans, speaking to Holmes on the phone, and helping Fielder process some of what he witnessed during his month filming the family.
Seyfried’s presence in the film isone of many surprises thatYou Can See Everythinghas in store and as the doc just hit theaters on Oct. 16, the actress has yet to publicly address her participation in the film. Meaning that until she’s ready to officially let the cat out of the bag and speak about her presence in the film, there might be a few more awkward interactions on the horizon for Seyfried.
