Bangladeshi short film “Ali”, directed by Adnan Al Rajeev, has won the Best Film award in the Asian Eye Competition at the 16th Bengaluru International Short Film Festival in India.

The film’s producer, Tanveer Hossain, announced the news in a social media post.

“It gives me immense pleasure to share that ‘Ali’ has won the Asian Eye Competition at the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival,” he wrote.

Hossain also expressed his gratitude to the festival organisers, jury members Harish Mallya, Rajat Goswami and Senthil Kumar, as well as the entire “Ali” team and those who supported the film.

Director Adnan Al Rajeev also expressed his excitement in the comments section of Hossain’s post.

Set in Bangladesh’s coastal region, “Ali” centres on a teenage boy of the same name who dreams of making his mark in music while confronting gender discrimination and cultural restrictions. Al-Amin plays the titular character in the film, which explores individual freedom and the challenge of breaking away from convention.

The film previously received a Special Mention in the short film competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
