The post comes a week after it was announced that he and his wife, Catherine Ritchson, have called it quits on their relationship.
Alan Ritchson says childhood comments contributed to feelings of being unworthy of love
Ritchson recently shared a video on Instagram which was taken after a sauna session. In the video, he discusses the importance of people loving themselves and how it can be a good antidote to deal with the frustrations everyone feels these days. He then points to how people are constantly bombarded with messages telling them they are not good enough and that buying or doing certain things would make them feel better about themselves.
“If we had this or that material thing, we’d be worth more to the world and more worthy of love, right? It’s kind of the message that capitalism teaches us, and it’s hard in Western cultures to get rid of that lie,” the actor added.
Ritchson then shared details about his childhood and how it contributed to his feelings of self-doubt. He revealed that his mother’s comments about his personality and other people’s interest in him when he was young had a big impact on him. “You start to feel like, ‘I’m not only not worthy of love, but I’m not supposed to be loved. And you carry that into adulthood,” he continued.
In the caption, he wrote a verse from the Bible. It read, “To whoever needs to hear this…For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities nor powers, neither things present nor things to come, neither height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
