Popular theatre troupe Tarua’s second production, “Adam Surat”, will return to the stage with four performances at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on July 23 and 24.
Written and directed by Bakar Bakul, the play will be staged at the academy’s Experimental Theatre Hall at 4:00pm and 7:00pm on both days.
“Adam Surat” explores injustice, neglect and the untold stories of marginalised people. The production draws on incidents and moments from people’s lives that often remain hidden from public view or fail to receive justice even when they come to light.
Speaking about the production, Bakar Bakul said, “The play reflects various inhumane incidents that take place constantly in our state, social and personal lives. Many such incidents remain hidden from public view or, even when they come to light, fail to receive justice. The play is built around some of these isolated incidents and untold moments from the lives of people in this land.”
Around 25 performers feature in the production, including Ahmed Opu, Shahzada Samrat Chowdhury, Suchitra Roy, Khairul Alam Himu, Khalid Bin Nasir, Enayet Mukul, Sagar Mahmud, Ifti Ahmed, Ananti Hossain, Kaniz Nusaiba Salam, Fatematuz Zahura Mahua, Swarnali Chaiti, Riya Debnath, Mezbaul Hasan Arnab, Fardin Riyad, Ratul Ahmed, Pranoy Prasad Pal and Tanvir Hossain, among others.
Advance tickets can be booked online or by phone. Tickets will also be available at the venue’s counter on the day of the performances.
The production received a strong response during its earlier shows, and the Tarua team expects another good audience turnout for the upcoming two-day run.
